I actually much prefer her just being a plain flier. I assume she's like Wing, in that she doesn't have invulnerability also? (wonder how high he is on resurrection priorities)
Anyway, I think her just being a flier is brilliant. She goes through that entire ordeal, taxing both physically and mentally beyond compare, willingly going against what could easily be mistaken for a god, for these powers that seem paltry in comparison to everyone else. She isn't exactly gunning for Omega status. Cyclops and Nightcrawler talk earlier about how half the mutants want to be reborn with Magneto's powers. Which is ofc an interesting question in and of itself. But I thought the juxtaposition between that and then Melody's crucible really highlighted what that fight was.
For me, the sequence hits on two things- First, that just flying is still this totally wonderful, fantastical thing. We're so over-diluted with power-sets that it's easy to forget that sometimes. Second, the deep sense of identity of the power to the mutant that was always there, but is in particular focus on Krakoa. It awakened leftover M-Day rage that I didn't know I was still holding onto.
This whole sequence works that much better because her powers are so simplistic, imo.
