Yeah I saw the last issue or preview or whatever. It was cool how it seemed to specifically mirror the actual current run on FF and then veered WAY off.

Reed shoulda listened to Sue. Cause now she ate him.

Though I'm not sure how one could "bite" Reed.

IMO you can passover the Englehart run though Too much silly drama (the Sue/Crystal cat fight ) and as usual he threwgh his pet character Mantis in there at one point. And then he even bailed out a bit when he inserted himself in the last page of his final issue.

Already own it. I currently have from 187-416 uninterrupted.

I just watched an interview with Chris Claremont and he said that him and Byrne had different ideas and plans on where to take the Uncanny X-Men during their run. So Byrne walked into Shooter’s office and said either Chris has to go or I go. Shooter said Chris is staying on as writer but you can have the FF to write and draw. Basically, he could do whatever he wanted, within reason. Byrne agreed and the rest is history.

I find these stories fascinating. It gives you perspective on how creators see things and how they end up on one book or the other. Just think, if John had not given Shooter that ultimatum we wouldn’t have one of the greatest FF runs of all time.

Byrne’s breaking point was when Claremont made Kitty a super genius. I’m not mad at the outcome, because their runs on FF and the X-world post breakup are absolute favorites in my book.

You've misread it, nobody BECOMES Galactus. There's a villain called Antithesis who opposes him.

I don't know, for me it always raises a red flag when the person being interviewed just wants to recreate the old days. That wasn't Stan & Jack's purpose at all. Do something new, something different. That's why Hickman's run was successful.

Why would the title need changing? There were a few later times when there was more than four members. There's nine superheroes on the team right now (Reed, Sue, Johnny, Ben, Franklin, Valeria, Sky, Jo-Venn and N'Kalla) and what about Sharon Ventura's time on the team? She was a fifth member in the end, right?

Shary was part of the book for quite a while. Heck, DeFalco’s run had Lyja, Kristoff, and Ant Man as part of the team.

That's been the problem with the FF for ages. Writers revere the Lee/Kirby run so much that way too many runs and stories are homages to it. The FF should be all about the new, not constantly dwelling in nostalgia.

Nostalgia works best when applied to basic principles, not the actual statuses. The favorite writers have kept the basis: family and adventure in the book while changing some status quos. Byrne and Hickman both did some changing while keeping the principles in order. And they did it well. The FF we saw at the end of the Lee/Kirby run was nothing like the FF that started the series. Marriages, kids, relationships, even a member addition all showed change. The FF is a family and that should never change, but the seating and the cast of Thanksgiving dinners do for every family.

I don't mind them trying to recapture that "feel" of the kirby/Lee run. That sense of adventure.

What scares me is the "soap opera" comment in the artcile. I dont think it has to be that.

But since I know its pretty much non-canon I'll go in with an open mind towards something different.

Just, let's not make this Grand Design 2: the revenge of the fanfiction.
