Oh well, at least Hickman brought back Cyke's patented stoic composure after his uncharacteristically emotional Rosenberg era.

It's good to see them on a dynamic of equals again. I missed that. Making Magik, instead of Dani or Roberto, the captain of the Sextant was a good call.

Definitely. I get it-- the artist is trying to be dynamic. But Yana comes off as kinda childish, here. On the other hand, CluelessClops is also back, so it's kinda funny. Idk.

This is still my favorite Scott & Yana moment, though:



Scott acknowledging the power at Yana's disposal and preparing accordingly while Yana remains unperturbed despite the room full of battle-ready killers and omegas behind her.

I wouldn't say Robin, as to me there are no mentor-sidekick vibes between them, but Magik would be the Storm to Cyke's Wolverine, minus the romantic tension. Acknowledgement of each other's abilities and agency, always having each other's backs given their shared history, and always giving the benefit of the doubt. Honestly, the bomb-jacket / imprisonment thing felt more for show than anything, with Magik humoring Cyke and placating the uneasiness of the rest of the mutants on Utopia. Even with all the specifications to it, Magik remained part of both Cyke's council on Utopia and the Extinction team.

And then Magik showed that she had everything, including Colossus' possession by Cytorrak, under control. What a friggin' boss!

So yeah. Best friends...well, at least until the anti-Cyclops agenda of the past several years kicked in. Now, we have Magik throwing a tantrum at Cyke giving her the heads-up, albeit a sassy tantrum.

I think of it this way: if Cyke ever had a solo book, Illyana would be an essential cast member.
I would love it if the relationship between these two as captains was developed more.
