Even now in Strikeforce he has abs and he's packing!!
It's less about muscles and more about exaggerated proportions for the character. I mean, those were all for the same book:

One of those things is clearly not like the others, which is why Sandoval's take stands out as the ''wrong'' way to portray the character. I'm fine with the way he's drawn on Strikeforce, but you gotta admit that the Strikeforce art STILL doesn't make him look like Sandoval's Billy.

There's a very distinct difference between Jim Cheung's BUFF Billy and Sandoval's ROIDED Billy.

I've never been on the Twink/Waif train for Billy, as I always saw him more as an Otter, and if he gets more and more jacked moving forward, well then more power to him but that DRAMATIC aesthetic shift in New Avengers was abrupt and extreme.

Billy, much like Bobby Drake, will be an eternal twunk. Sorry.

I agree Sandoval's art does stand out among the rest but frankly that's just his style all his characters looked like that so I never gave it much thought truthfully. Like some people were triggered!!! With Billy being drawn like that, at the end of the day all I'm saying is Billy has never been some skinny little twink like certain YA stans would have you believe.

He's never been really skinny, but he isn't supposed to be a massive roided freak show either. Twunk sums it up. No 17 year old is as big as Schwarzenegger was in his prime.

And for God's sake the manga hair is horrible. This Billy is the best Billy.

When did Billy and Teddy get engaged? I have no recollection of that happening. Was it that promise thing at the end of Childrens Crusade?

When? Is it just them being married and old at the end?

Oh, I forgot to post about it, but last Sunday (9) was the Young Avengers' 15th anniversary, and of course that bitch Marvel didn't even say anything about it. They're still morally obligated to announce YA-related content until the end of this month. u_u

Their engagement is a weird thing to me. They had that moment at the end of Children's Crusade that a lot of fans read as an actual engagement, but I wasn't particularly under that impression, and Gillen's Young Avengers only treated them as boyfriends, so I assumed that was the extent of their relationship. Then Ewing's New Avengers came along and they were stated to be engaged without further explanation. So I'm assuming either they really got engaged at the end of Children's Crusade or their engagement happened off-page after that.

I swear, some of you would call Picasso crap.

Meh. Like I said before, I don't care for McKelvie's art. He does good bodies, but to me there always something off about his faces. Not even the same-face. They just look kind of depressed all the time. To me anyway. And I hated Billy's hair. Shape and colour.
Cheung is still my favorite, but Billy's actually been drawn by a lot of great artists over the years.

It's weird 'cause I don't exactly love Cheung's faces, they all seem like he drew a circle, and then added a face to it, or something, everyone is very round-faced and 'soft' looking, but that's the look I associated with the Young Avengers, and to see them with more angular faces and proportions, even in an art style that I would normally prefer, seems 'wrong' somehow.

On the other hand, his faces make them look younger, to me, like they've still got some baby fat (in their faces, at least, like most superhero types, they've got 0% body fat...), and other artists giving them more edge and angle and even an occasional square jaw makes them look more adult to me.

And his art style doesn't fit the character. What's so hard to understand? We don't have to like it just because it's his art style?
