EVERYTHING LOOKS SO GOOD! I had been wondering who was doing the past vs present scenes and this looks like it might be from the past since the cover of the present showed the all female team as though something was wrong with them? Either way, like Doombot, I have been waiting ages for an expanded look into some of the history of Atlantis!

Dewey's Instagram reminds me how much I loved this team's Autumnlands. I think we are going to get an amazing visual experience, with oceans full of amazing sea life. Can. Not. Wait.

One thing I like about his designs for the Swift Riders is how different they are. Dewey portrays what looks like different ethnic or races of Atlanteans. Really interested in seeing these additions.
I just realized, there are penciled riders on the squid and the shark! Oh, and in the background too! Cool. I wonder if that's Dorma watching the Swift Riders?

Me too! Hopefully this will stick, also.

I'm pretty sure Ben Dewey is doing the past scenes and Jonas Scarf is doing the present scenes. I'm wondering if whatever Knull tie-in they encounter mutates the Swift Riders into their present, more monstrous forms.

I found this post on Scharf's instagram, and I'm betting it is from the KiB Namor book. His work definitely has a horror vibe, which will go well with the Knull stuff, I imagine.

Ohhh that little detail looks amazing, I'm wondering if the Swift Riders (that's their name right?) end up being like the Valkyrie/Dora Milaje of the Atlanteans?

Another little detail is this comment on twitter from Dewey about how he designed the team!

I think they are being called Swift Riders now. Apparently, from Dewey's illustration, their name has undergone a few changes. I think Swift Riders is better than the Sunken. O_O

I don't think so. The description said they were Atlantean heroes and that Namor and Dorma were going on a mission with them? They do seem transformed in the present day issue, but that doesn't appear to be in a divine fashion, IMO.

The Greeks had Valkyries of a sort, the Keres, but they weren't ... as positive as the Norse Valkryies. They are more monstrous than escorts to Vahalla.

Personally, I don't care for the idea of "wives in waiting" / segregated female body guards. I think the Atlanteans, at least presently, are more egalitarian than that. IIRC, both of Nara's parents, were part of the Royal Guard. There were two other named female Praetorian / Royal guards -- one in Wolverine and one in Captain America, that were on top missions. We've seen female warriors amongst the Atlanteans. In general, the way Everett wrote Namor, women have either had a larger role or a more equal role in his Atlantis and in Namor's life. Which, given the more mythical and symbolic feminine connections to the sea, is entirely appropriate.

    HOLY COW.

Let me just pick my jaw up off the floor.

That's the gorgeous Namor Molina has ever done. That's definitely the best Defender's Namor I've ever seen. I think Riveria's 'greasy' Namor may just have some competition. Look how shiny those swimming trunks are!

    WOW!

Also. Defenders COVER??? Are we getting a Defenders book? A mini-series? A one-shot?

    EDIT:

Just reposted this in the Defenders thread, and seeing the Omnibus solict I posted there, I think it more likely this is the TBA Direct Market cover we're getting for the Defenders Omnibus.

Haha, just saw this over in the Defenders thread, but it is soooo good, I can see it again! Thanks for posting it in both threads, Rev!

This cannot be the cover to the Omnibus as they only mention the 2 covers.......so, is there some other Defenders book coming out that I do not know about?

Juan found this gorgeousness. I just reposted in the Defenders thread.

No, if you look at the solicit for the Defenders Omnibus, they list three covers -- which is unusual. Normally, there's a DM cover and a regular cover, and one of them has an original art panel or cover on it. The other one is usually a newly created for the omnibus cover. The Defenders omnibus, however, has two Direct Market, original art covers -- the Neal Adams Marvel Feature and the Gil Kane Giant Size cover -- and a TBA cover. I'm betting this is the TBA, third cover.

Oh, thanks! I may pick that up with this varient cover. Believe it or not, I am missing the 1st issue in MMW format, so this could justify the purchase!

That's just awesome! The details is just spectacular and that Namor is just handsome(I'm a straight guy admitting this!).

I wonder what kind of ink marker he's using? I've done some drawings with colored ink markers and that looks like some very good quality.

He's using Copics. I haven't used them, but I know they are pricey. There are a tons of colors, and they blend, so you get some gorgeous art.

And yes, Molina did Namor justice. ;p

I can't wait to see the rest of the Defenders. Hulk looks great, but I don't think I've seen Molina do Doctor Strange.

Then yes! This would be a great buy for you. I was on the fence on this, but this cover definitely inclines me to a purchase.

That's a nice picture. Namor and Valkirie are looking like a couple of Dutch models. Looking forward to see the finished image with the entire team.
