    Thor #292 Feb 1980
The Eternals Saga: Part 11 of 20 "If an Eye Offend Thee...!"
Odin is poised above Thor, and is about to kill him, when he is overcome.
He screams that he'll not kill his son again, and hurls Gungnir away.
Thor asks Odin what he meant by "again".
Odin tells him a riddle about an eye, and leaves it at that.
Odin then retrieves Gungnir and leaves,

leaving the Eternals and Olympians to continue the battle if they want.

Zeus then gathers his armies and leaves, back to Olympus.
Zuras returns to his people to tend to all their wounds, leaving Thor alone.

He ponders Odin's words, and remembers Odin giving up his eye.
He then uses Mjolnir to locate the Eye of Odin and finds it attacking a small village of dwarves.
Thor intervenes and is attacked himself. Thor overcomes the power of the Eye of Odin
and it tells him that he will answer one question only. Thor asks what Odin meant by "again"
and the Eye of Odin tells him that may be the one question which will give him all the answers.

Script by Roy Thomas, pencils by Keith Pollard, inks by Chic Stone.

    Thor #293 Mar 1980
The Eternals Saga: Part 12 of 20 "The Twilight of SOME Gods!"
The Eye of Odin agrees to answer Thor's question

of what Odin meant when he said that he would not slay Thor again.
The Eye of Odin shows Thor the recent past, and further going back to before he was cast as Don Blake.
The Eye of Odin then shows Thor a door in his mind's eye, behind which are some of the secrets he seeks.
He rips the doors open and sees a vision of Ragnarok, but not any Ragnarok he has ever seen before.
He looks back a bit further and sees Asgardians hurling weapons at Balder, but not the Balder he knows.
He sees Hoder kill Balder, and Loki leading the Forces of Darkness.
He also sees his counterpart die in battle with Jormungand, and Surtur destroy creation.
He sees Balder and eight other of the Aesir rise from the smoke.

The Eye of Odin then shows Thor when this happened, as the flaming Asgard appears as a brightly burning star

in the night sky 2000 years ago.

Script by Roy Thomas, Mark Gruenwald ("some multiversal bon mots") and Ralph Macchio ("some multiversal bon mots"),
pencils by Keith Pollard (breakdowns) and Chic Stone (finished art), inks by Chic Stone.

I'm a bit worried about how the Celestials are going to be portrayed in the film. I have a lot of doubts about the film and feel The Eternals are a hard sell in general. I don't really love a single casting choice they've made. I genuinely hope I'm wrong and get a pleasant surprise upon release.

On just a purely comic angle, I was re-reading the Kirby run a little while ago and one thing that always bothered me was, from the get go, the Eternals are portrayed as nigh invincible, almost perfect beings, while their antagonists the Deviants are weak, mortal, and even genetically unstable. Now it's a cool dynamic, but it makes the Eternals being who are rarely even in threatening situations. Two Eternals can stand on a bridge and thrash hundreds of Deviants without breaking a sweat. It robs the Deviants of any sort of menace. The Eternals being nearly perfect beings and the Deviants being weak, non-threats are, in my opinion, one of the reasons the Eternals never really broke out into the larger MU.
