It’s the “What I ordered vs What I got” or “Expectation vs Reality”

I wonder if it was supposed to be an ongoing planned for the aborted 5G initiative or a brand/concept that DC wants to focus on again anyway moving forward? I see all their main brands among the Future State books as well as characters like the New Gods, Black Adam or Vixen that currently have projects in development in other media and will eventually be more prominent in comics in the upcoming years. 🤔

Yeah, that's the first thing I thought reading the solicit for the book. I bet that by the 2nd issue, their dynamic is going to end up resembling that of Clark & Diana from pre-FP or something. 🙃

Why not just have Clark and Diana but it can be an out of continuity instead of hellbent on the limitations set by canon status quo?

There's also Marvel's Squadron Supreme being rumored for live action. If faithful to the comics, the audience will get a more blatant rip-off of SM/WW than the others listed.

DC should be leading with the real deal SMWW, not letting other companies take advantage of the concept and on top of that try to force the concept to other characters.

Actually, Batman's status quo is being alone. lol

But Batman isn’t exactly shackled to that too much. His character is free to break status quo way more often than others.

I dunno to what extent the separate franchises excuse hold up. Marvel movies treat their characters as part of one giant franchise instead of separate entities that can't connect. Also, the SM and WW books were under the same editorial group for many times lately which should make easier to connect them one way or another.

Honestly there isn’t an excuse. They are branded together outside with merch.

Really doesn’t make any sense. Referring to previous stories, yet the characters’ interactions are so empty. Trying to force this stuff as one history/timeline just isn’t good even worse with cherry-picking causing massive plot holes and contradictions.

It's forced when one character never had any presence or relevance in the other's books/franchise. Or you have to undermine pre-existing dynamics (*cough* SM/WW *cough*) and/or go full history revisionist with BS claims.

Pretty much Lol. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be ending any time soon as well. Though the new future slate maybe one small step in the right direction. That is, depending on what the book is like anyway.

Obviously, It was on purpose by whoever took over the books back then. I can share via PM what one of the DC folks said about the shipper nonsense was going on BTS with one of the writers. 🙄

Thanks for this, it's all making sense given the last four years or so and the lack of official material we've gotten from DC comics. How very spiteful.

I don't like Jon for obvious reasons, but I am really excited for Brazilian Wonder Woman, so I think I'll still enjoy it. I know this new Future State book isn't what many SM/WW shippers had in mind but I urge everyone to please buy the book, if each of us spends a few bucks and it gets DC to notice us and do more SM/WW stuff in the future, it's worth it imo.

I'm extremly wary about it TBH, I mean I usually get trade collections anyway so I'll be paying close attention to what the book has in store but in regards to this I've been burned by DC before.

And I agree! We should buy the book and send photos to DC saying that we are buying but that we will only spend money with the company again when they give us the real SMWW! The only thing I disagree with here is the fact that DC will notice us there .... they already noticed us and found that we are strong, the proof is this book.

I'm kinda hoping they planned it so it could try to mirror the new 52, but then again if it wasn't then that means they had to have recognised how SM/WW can still sell despite them burying their heads in the sand.

Fingers crossed anyway, because i've been burned by DC before and if it's simply a "why would superman date wonder woman when they can be best friends" kind of deal for the book then I just don't have the energy for DC comics anymore.

It was deliberate to establish the new Superboy.

In 2015, Kon was in the Teen Titans book and Tom King/Kennet Rocafort were working on an upcoming Suberboy relaunch but his planned series had to be aborted and he had to disappear the month DC released the 1st issue of Jurgens' L&C series to not get in the way of the newly introduced character. Even Bendis (who pushed to get Kon back) confirmed Kon wasn't around anymore because the new Superboy had to get all the spotlight.

Superdad's story arcs and his own character were all focused on the new kid, both in the main SM books or team books. Look at what SM talks about all the time in Hitch's JL. In one issue, he even said he doesn't care about Earth or Krypton, and his family is all his world.

Obviously, the interactions with BM and Damian had to stay for the launch of the Supersons book, lol

It's amazing how much they've flushed down the toilet since the L&C series. They were supposed to expand Superman's family yet they've shortened it considerably, all for a superson's book that lasted what, a year?
