They couldnÂ’t have. ThatÂ’s why it was a bad idea to put their eggs in one basket having those expectations and no back up plan. They were so confident in this one idea closing off everything and when this didnÂ’t meet expectations, they are now stuck not knowing what to do.
SMWW met expectations and beyond. Continues to do so with what we see with daily posts etc. but yet, itÂ’s closed off because unnecessary counterproductive reasonings leaving so much on the table. It would be different if the ideas SMWW was stopped for did better but that hasnÂ’t been the case.

Comic and merch wise, yes. But if the expectations for a concept are being adapted in live action and other media (even games) in the short term, if said media go in a different direction, comics will likely follow.

We saw it happening when, after 2 years, the update started with Birthright, was abandoned in favor of the Reeve's SM nostalgia at the same time the Donner-inspired Superman Returns came out (nostalgia that ended up dropped too after SR went nowhere). And again, Jurgens was credited as the main influence of BvS (along with Miller) and he got the key of the franchise around its release to bring back the DoS era vibe in the comics (Dan even "blamed" Johns to force him to use Doomsday in his first arc because the movie, lol). They were expecting cartoons out of Supersons but the book was announced to be cancelled after only 2 arc? were out, and, I guess, the Supersons/Superfamily cartoon pitch being rejected by a network led to drop it and move asap into another "experiment"...

That’s another problem. Thinking short term or if trying to think long term, they jump too far. Like I said, putting all eggs in one basket, closing off everything not knowing if whatever idea will work. They ended up with more losses than gains
