I feel like Gerry is showing everyone how much Emma has grown! While she is grieving privately after the funeral she finds Lockheed and discovers what happened to Kate! At first Emma is enraged and wants to go to war with Shaw immediately, but then she deflates and changes her mind! Instead she picks up Lockheed to take him to the Healer! You could tell Emma asked herself what Kate would do, and she decided Kate would take care of Lockheed first, everything else can come later! You can tell Emma loves Kate deeply! Be it as mentor, mother, or friend, she has a very deep love for Kate Pryde and the rest of the issue after finding Lockheed is focussed on Emma's feelings for Kate! I don't want to say anything more, I just wanted to say that I loved how Gerry is showing that Emma can set aside everything to take care of someone she cares about very deeply! We all know she will go after Shaw later, but here in this issue she pulls back and focusses on taking care of Lockheed and following up on her feelings for Kate Pryde!

Duggans Emma is fantastic

It's true. He's now up there with Lobdell, Morrison, Whedon, and... Hickman.

Hickman writes better dialogue but Duggan's plotting, character development, and keeping her AWAY from trophy girlfriend status has been fantastic read.

As an Emma fan I couldn't be happier with the current status. Duggan does really well with Emma's inner feelings and character development and Hickman does fantastic with her overall role in the mutant nation and every scene even small ones are very meaningful.

I am going to stop secretly shipping Kate and Emma from now on! That is just impossible, Emma is Kate's mom! Reading through the issue again there is things that lead to Emma feeling that way! Emma is the one to guide Kate out of the womb, the one to comfort and hold Kate after her memories are restored!

The funeral scene are the two girlfriends Illyana and Rachel escorting the casket to the "parents" Storm and Emma! It makes sense that even though Kate is in her 20's that Storm and Emma can't stop seeing her as someone they need to nurture and protect! For sure Kate's death hurt Emma so deeply that I bet Emma is going to be a bit of a clingy mom for a little while!

This is just how I read this but to me the moment when she was about to smash the Black King chess piece it was when she realized that Kate doesn't "smash" or break through barriers, she ignores them, reason why she stopped mid swing and almost immediately asked Charles for a final try.


Also completely out of topic but that little speech from Emma made me think of Orihime going through Hachigen's barrier so hard.

While I did think this recent issue of Marauders was a bit over hyped; Emma also outsmarted Xavier (plus the 5) on a task they tried EIGHTEEN TIMES.

Agreed. She's appearing in multiples titles. Is a high profile figure within not only the books but the mutant world itself. And she isn't a trophy girlfriend. This might be the best time for Emma.

That's a great Emma look.

Monet did not like Emma in X-Factor but I don't think either has interacted in ages. Hickman is pro Gen X so it seems like an obviously choice to me.

I find them very similar actually.
