So over in the Black Lightning thread someone had talk about linking John to Jefferson (Black Lightning) as part of the lightning family. It also reminded me of another conversation about how now black heroes have a team up with each other like superman/batman or Green Lantern/Flash.

How do you guys feel about this? Would it be a downgrade to make him a supporting character of Black lightning?

In no way is it being suggested that John be a supporting character to Black Lightning. Just someone he can team up with from time to time.

Personally I wouldn't make John a supporting character in Black Lightning's potential books, but each one crossing over into each other's lives every now and then? Sure. Especially if Lynn is still Jefferson's wife and John in still Lynn's brother. Having them NOT hang out for holidays or family get-togethers would be weird to me. And if you tack on Vixen as John's girlfriend, just imagine how powerful the Pierce-Stewart family would be (Green Lantern John, Black Lightning, Thunder, Lightning) + Vixen (sometimes). Lynn and Vixen could hang out.

I'm only for it if she actually is just a trashy TMZ-esque reporter because I think it'd be fun if she just loved drama and wanted to stir the pot. Every reporter love interest is just someone's take on Lois Lane (even ones I love such as Linda Park) so if we must do it again, go hard in the other direction. It's gotten annoying how intrepid reporter has become the mold for superhero love interests.

Otherwise, just bring Katma back at this point. If Barry can be revived there's no reason Katma can't and her and John leading their own GLC book could be fun.

If they related by marriage due to Lynn-that is not a supporting role that is just a team up with a reason (since some demand a reason for black folks to interact in comics).
