It does sound good - it's a fascinating perspective, and I'm sure the ultimate payoff will be amazing, but I really don't think John would show up to talk to people and just float there like that, so removed from them. I'm trying to think of a time in his history where maybe he was like that, but I'm not sure... he obviously was much younger. And it's from someone else's POV so it can be taken with a grain (or two) of salt. (get it? Salty? )

Not for nothing, but I kinda wish they'd have used the image of John unmasking in front of the press as opposed to recreating that cover since from BL's POV he would have seen the press conference, but not the image that's used there. I get that that image fits BL's narrative more ,but that's a quibble...

A lot of people are still uncomfortable with black men being allowed to show emotional vulnerability, so that interview really made me smile.

It's odd that they chose to ignore Cyborg's retcon as a JLA founder. That could have been an interesting as part of this too. But I guess they're trying to speak to the real life experience more than what would be a revisionist version of history.

    John Stewart as Parallax
THE SIGNAL (Duke Thomas) is DC's secret shonen protagonist so I made him a fandom wiki

I think Ridley is going off more Post-Crisis continuity than New 52.

I remember John and Guy were supposed to get Parallax forms in the Sinestro Corps. War originally.

yeah, i said the same thing. I thought it was Lex until Robin King said otherwise. I just really like Robin King pointing out how nothing ever really came out of Xanshi incident, almost felt like the writers acknowledging how much time has been pointlessly wasting on Xanshi with John.

While I would've loved to see a Parallax John I feel doing it next to a Parallax Guy after Parallax Hal and Parallax Kyle would've made it feel less impactful and significantly more underwhelming.

Well, Fatality happened, for better or worse...

I actually like Fatality, but she hasn't been in anything landmark nor do i think they've done anything with her that's really elevated John's character. I dug their romance, and i could see her being his regular love interest being an interesting reconciliation between Xanshi incident, but that was already on iffy ground because of the ambiguity of if the Star Sapphire reprograms or reveals and then it was done.

Holy hell does Jeff tear into John over the course of The Other Side. He’s just constantly talking smack about him and putting him down,

    spoilers:
I loved that in the end Jeff realized there was a lot about John he didn’t know, and that many of the attitudes he had ascribed to John were simply his own projections. It was a sweet moment at the end for Jeff to realize he was being an ass, and to go to John and try to be a friend. The moment really touched me.
    end of spoilers

I would honestly like to see Ridley do some more stuff with John if he wanted to.

He wrote or did the teleplay for Hearts and Minds.

Something was left out of that..... Both (well old school John) had another thing in common. A wife. Shocked that did not come up.

I was disappointed in John's limited role in the Other History of the DCU, but, overall, I liked how it handled both Jefferson and John's relationship.

I did not like the idea that John did actually try to shoot himself in the head several times, but the ring stopped him. I thought Cosmic Odyssey's original depiction of that was better, with J'Onn goading John angry to snap him out of it. Granted, Jefferson was hearing the story second or third hand, so that could explain the differences.

I guess the idea that Lynn was John's sister has been completely dropped. Probably for the best. I don't think it would have added much to this particular story.

I had to get to the end but I was glad I did. John's not even my favorite GL (and Superman is my favorite superhero) but I was on the edge of my seat ready to say "YOU LEAVE JOHN ALONE, JEFF." Ridley really did a great job portraying Jefferson's arc and how he came together with John Stewart by the end.

I don't love that retcon either, to be honest, but it fits the universe Ridley's playing with. Jeff's story isn't done with the first issue it seems so perhaps the jury's still out on if the Stewarts are related in this book.
