It's nice see John Stewart making an appearance in Young Justice. To tell you the truth, I didn't expect for someone like Bendis to use John and give him a decent amount of dialogue. I guess I'm surprised, because Bendis always seemed to prefer Hal Jordan. This is a good move by Bendis. And I'm glad he used John in the issue, which means he invested into the character a bit.

John pops up in Young Justice. while these John appearances are great to see, he needs a book where they can tell his stories; these cameos are not cutting it. Endless Winter and Last Lanterns feel promising but we need regular content.

Agreed. I'm very happy and excited that John is starting to grow in DC. He's playing in bigger roles in big events (including upcoming events), being featured with Hawkgirl from the GL anniversary special, going to be in a Green Lantern Future event special, getting more guest appearances, more writers being fond of him etc. but those are just the icings without the cake right now. The last step of direction for what DC needs to do with John is give him a solo series. I mean, with all of the moves I seen DC done with the character in recent years, I have more confidence that we'll get to see him in an ongoing series in the future.

Doesn't necessarily preclude him from being exasperated by a bunch of rowdy kids and some girl having a GL gear she really shouldn't have.

IIRC, the Marine incarnation of John Stewart was based off Sgt. Emil Foley (who was a hardcore drill instructor) from the film "An Officer and a Gentleman."
