Well that's one of the benefits of having a slightly smaller roster. I think John (along with other characters) lost a lot of focus in Snyder's run, due to him keep adding characters in his book
Yea, that surely did happen. Their interaction felt a little awkward when John guest appeared in Justin Jordan's run.
What ever happened to Merayn?
She left John Stewart and got a job with the DEO. Was never heard from again. I think Johns or DC wanted all the characters single before his run began, so Jade and Merayn left Kyle and John.
It seems Merayn preferred John in a wheelchair and started to feel neglected or without purpose when he was able to walk and became a GL again.
I guess the relationship may have worked if Merayn was still a Darkstar and could superhero with him, which actually would have been better than whatever Johns did or didn't do with John. I'm pretty sure Merayn was initially designed to be a sort of neo-Katma.

An Earth physicist working on propulsion systems for spacecraft, he jumped at the opportunity to study an alien craft first-hand when a Llaran vessel visited the Sol system. Too bad he was on board when an intergalactic incident broke out. He's relentlessly curious about his chosen discipline, with a deep understanding of the physics behind energy as it applies to space travel. This gives him the ability to recognize that the Yellow energy is not from our dimension. And meeting Arisia gives him a reason to use it as a force for good.
As the most accomplished of the Green Lanterns, her skills are unquestioned. It's her management style that chaffs some of the Green Lanterns. Or is it just that a collection of individuals always has a hard time becoming a true community? Either way, it's lonely trying to lead. Fortunately, she may have found a kindred spirit when she meets Stewart.
