I'll give you the fights, but this issue was just her relying and uniting the minds and power of all the avengers.
When she loses it, she loses all of it too. She can't be "really OP" if that feat came explicitly from some external source.
She's not "really worthy". It was thor's heart inside her.
The whole thing was more about her dealing with all their conflicting minds and uniting them against a common enemy relying on their heroism and that's how she described it too. Getting the full range of human experience in one dose, rather than a power thing. She's simply the vessel for the avengers to unite and beat the bad guy through while looking like some body horror monstrosity.
it isn't even like doom, where he uses his own ingenuity to steal the beyonders powers and become omnipotent
I think an easy way to look at Thanos stories is that anything written by Jim Starlin, Ron Marz and Keith Giffen is the real Thanos while anything written by other authors should be dismissed as a Thanosi clone.
I must be an anomaly. I’ve been reading Thor since Simonson, and have everything after the Thomas run, and I like Aaron’s Thor, and the evolution of Jane under his hand.
Anyway, I can’t believe nobody has thought to explore Odin’s brothers families. You’d think with Asgard being in such disarray, it’d be perfect time to see some possible challengers to the throne. Especially with Thor’s turn as Galactus’ herald.

Thanos is supposed to be a cosmic and mystical character and an hard opponent to beat. I have no issue with him holding his ground against powerful heroes and villains unless they have a major anp.
The real issue is that Starlin's Thanos Is a more intelligent and multilayered character compared to the thuggish idiot who jumps in front of a reality warper with no plan and says something moronic. That's my main gripe with non-starlin Thanos, not his powers. Would you like if your favorite grey villain gets reduced to a dimwitted brute and saturday morning cartoon villain? You made a valid point about Starlin's protective nature of Thanos and Warlock and some ego in his more recent stuff. But you also need to understand where i (and Thanos fans) an coming from. Thanos is supposed to be a smart scientist with a particular voice.

Thor #233 Mar 1975
"Midgard Aflame!"
Loki transports himself to Asgard. With Odin still missing
the God of Mischief quickly vanquishes the Vizier.
Outside of Avengers Mansion,
Thor rescues a small child from an oncoming truck.
He decides to gather the Avengers to help him battle Loki and his oncoming army
but when he goes back to Avengers Mansion, he finds it encased in a force field.
Similarly, all of the superheroes around the country,
as well as the Baxter Building, are encased in smaller force fields.
Later, Thor is summoned to the Pentagon where
he and the Army are on alert to repel Loki's forces.
Script by Gerry Conway, pencils by John Buscema, inks by Chic Stone
