“We have a saying, my people. Don’t kill if you can wound, don’t wound if you can subdue, don’t subdue if you can pacify, and don’t raise your hand at all until you’ve first extended it.”
My own collection at the moment.
was taking the girdle = losing powers started in TV or comics?
That concept was based on Hercules taking it from Hypolitta right?
In the original Marston backstory Hippolyta lost her powers if the girdle was taken. The 70s show made it that the belt was what allowed Diana to keep her powers when off Paradise Island.
In the original myths, I don't think the belt had any special significance beyond just being a valued possession of Hippolyta and that it was gifted from Ares.
I love the classic, but the Rebirth era is quickly becoming a very close second. Honestly, there are only 2 I don’t care about, one is the biker shorts era, and the second is the Nu52.
I kind of like girdle version better since it's symbolic. Hercules defeated the Amazon and the symbol was taking the girdle, so now it's a curse, should the girdle ever be taken then she's able to be subjugated.
That's if I want her to have a weakness, coz if one of the condition is the girdle has to be taken by a man, then there's also unfortunate implications there
