Idk, lots of people who get engaged in the type of rhetoric Wright does have a few screws loose, even if it's not anything too extreme. She's dealt with depression in the past and she credits her faith with saving her. Speaking as someone still in the church I've seen plenty of people who were mentally broken become unhealthily attached to their newfound faith and develop all types of crazy ideas. Her strange turn could be an underlying issue that she's channeling through her religion, but I obviously don't know her personally so I won't speculate too much on that.

And I agree, there's a legitimate argument to be made that Boseman is nearly impossible to replace. Wright not so much. If we're speaking honestly, she was never remotely on my radar for taking the character on and I could think of several actresses who better match the look and vibe of the Shuri that Coogler was going for. I would have absolutely no issue with seeing her recasted, but this does make the future of BP2 murky. Is Marvel really gonna recast not 1, but 2 major characters for the sequel? T'Challa and Shuri? Would they recast Shuri but still have her take the mantle?

This is why I'm confident nothing happens. Twitter will find a new celebrity to be outraged at next week and Disney can just have Wright apologize to clear things up with most of the audience. From there they can recast T'Challa and keep Shuri on the backburner until enough time has passed that people accept her taking the mantle without issue.

The problem is if she wants to apologize. Folks who post this kinda of thing doesn't want to apologize, anything like that would be censorship.

I don't think her out of the movie put the movies under jeopardy. Franchises are bigger than actors and she is te name easiest to substitute. Lupita as a oscar, Duke is a fan favorite.

Religion can be good, but when the person becomes a fanatic it is really bad. This is why it is good to get psychological treatment with professionals and avoid only getting religious help

It's called satire... Nobody is technically cancelled it's just in this day and age of Twitter outrage it's leading towards taking food off of someone else's plate if they don't agree to you're own personal policies!

That's a reach Flex c'mon man. There's a way to open up a fruitful and respectful dialogue about the legit fears surrounding medical racism and the current pandemic. Tweeting out satanic conspiracies by dudes with no medical knowledge that incorporate climate denial and transphobia is counterproductive. Letitia isn't a smart woman, but she's got the resources to reach out to professionals and give them a platform or articulate more specifically what her concerns are. In the context of the Black Panther IP, leaps of logic and irrationality in the face of white supremacy and colonialism has never been shown to be a good thing.

If we choose to follow it, the morality of the franchise demands that we maintain a logic-based approach to dealing with issues, uncovering deceptions not through more deception and religiosity, but through planning, strategy, and accountability. What Wright did is against the spirit of the fictional world she represents and the interests of the very black people she wants to protect. None of that means I support Coates and his equally radical and idiotic beliefs about black gender relations. Nor does it mean as a black man I don't have some worries about the vaccine. But I won't use my faith in God or the history of racial oppression in this world to justify close-mindedness or outright disinformation.

America has a freedom of speech law written in the constitution but if someone said "BOMB" in a crowded airport that would cause a panic so it it not advisable to do so!


As far as social media goes I am generally cool with whatever is posted because I don't read it or do not care to research it unless it is relevant to my life!


Doxxing... Cyberbullying... Revenge Porn... Are meant to directly harm someone but opinions are just that opinions!


I seriously doubt with the amount of doctors I know personally that I would take Letitia Wright's posting as medical law but she still has rights to her own agenda!


In Hollywood as a personal trainer I have crossed paths with many celebrities and big shots who have all types of beliefs and superstitions... I don't care do your push ups!


I have never told any clients that I would not train them because of their religious, political or radical beliefs... In fact I use them to work up a sweat better because like the dark side of the force your anger gives you focus!


All Cancel Culture has done is cost money and destroy industries and looking at the current homeless problem on the west coast ruin lives!


If you allow Cancel Culture to seep into the Black Panther franchise then say goodbye to all that revenue just so that you can get your way!


BTW... A whole lot more of the cast and production crew are Christians and Black Panther was filmed in the Bible Belt south of Atlanta home of the mega churches!

Don't worry, we're just having a conversation and I agree with/appreciate most of your posts in this thread, no tension here lol

I don't disagree with where you're coming from at all. I've been quick to call out the stupidity of people on Twitter and the undue perceived social influence it has in real life. And yes, people are entitled to believe what they want and express it however and whenever they feel appropriate. Boseman was outspoken about his faith and thoroughly believed his faith would allow him to survive his cancer, no one knocks him for it.

What I'm saying is people reserve the right to criticize others for their beliefs, especially when they are objectively out of the bounds of public discourse and rationality. Having an agenda doesn't absolve someone from getting criticized, let alone when she put out her video to be seen by the public. That's not to say Wright deserves to get fired (though I wouldn't have an issue if she were), but it does mean she deserves to get called out and if possible educated on why her beliefs on this issue are idiotic and potentially harmful to others given her platform.

Cancel culture is a thing, but all too often it's overblown and used as a buzzword to suggest you can believe anything, no matter how blatantly false, without ever being called out just because we have freedom of speech. I'm not one to hold celebrities to a higher standard and as you suggest many of them hold twisted beliefs we'll never discover. But when they do vocalize problematic "opinions" people have every right to say "You're wrong and arguably making the situation worse."

Have you ever believed something deeply then at some point changed after evidence indicated otherwise but then later newer evidence confirmed your original belief?


Not all conspiracy theories are true but a every now and then a revelation comes to light that affirms your fears!


I once had a client that was all over the 9/11 conspiracy and brought me books right there in the gym and I used them to put him through the exercise paces!


The problem was he thought 9/11 was an inside job and I informed him that there would have be at least 20,000 people in on that to make that successfully work!


Sometimes terrorists just sucker punch you and that is all there is to it... Of course he insisted upon the conspiracy and eventually got mad and stop showing up for the workouts because I would not submit to his apparent lack of evidence and other clients began to mock him openly!


I had a billionaire movie producer that I was training while I was wearing a Black Panther t-shirt and he swore that movie would never see the light of day... Oh well!


But I always let people rant and vent to their hearts content until they are either proven right or wrong... I never cancel clients unless they deliberately stop paying me!


My South African wife who's very languages were used in the Black Panther movie gives zero F's about the character or the franchise or all the merchandise I collect!


BUT... Her clear favorite character is MCU Shuri who reminds her of her niece back home so if push comes to shove and you attack her over her religious beliefs or other random tweets and I have to choose a side I aint sleeping on the sofa for none of you!


Start leaving people alone and let them have their ideas/ideals like we used to before social media became god...
