Bruce Banner: The Hulk Appreciation 2020

If I had to guess, Joe's getting stronger (out in daylight, able to take and maintain control for long periods where Bruce doesn't know what happened) and Devil is just starting to get some day time.

So Joe is trying to bargain to get some "Hulk" time and locking Devil out as a way to show he's getting stronger and not going to be shut out like he was for much longer.

Unless Fixit and Devil start coming together and we see the start of the Maestro alter forming.

It looks like Joe has made his move. We’re definitely seeing the beginnings of another conflict between the personalities like in issue #376. However, on second thought, what if that’s not Joe we’re seeing but Brian Banner instead? He has been seen since issue 24, and he also makes the same expression on his face when he’s around. I think about it, that would explain why Bruce had that mustache in issue 18, and why he was asking joe for help at the end of #24. Perhaps in order for TOBA’s ultimate plan to be realized, Bruce and Hulk need to be physically separated again, with it taking control of Hulk’s body and Brain having control of Bruce’s body as reward for his obedience and revenge for Bruce killing him.

I still think that Joe has anger towards his dad, especially given what he said to Samson during the incoming one shot. It’s more likely that as He matures from being out during the day, Joe becomes like Devil Hulk, expressing his anger through cold, blunt and dismissive jabs, instead of outward and direct hostility. Samson May be on to something why he mentioned to Betty that the personalities are rubbing off on each other. Bruce seems to be taking on more tactical skills, while Devil Hulk seems to be behaving more heroically( at least in this arc).

Villain: The Leader
Synopsis: Doc Samson arrives at Gamma Base to try and help the Hulk, only to find out from Betty Ross that he, Rick and Bereet have left for New York City. Their first stop is the Baxter Building, where he’s attacked by three of the four members, until Reed Richards reminds them that Banner is in control of the Hulk’s body. He then explains his position and with the help of the FF and others, is able to get word out about getting a Presidential Pardon written and signed. Sometime later (days or weeks, it’s never explicitly stated) outside the White House, Matt Murdock reads the signed Pardon aloud to the Hulk, with Rick, Bereet and a large group of various super heroes/groups in front of the press. Suddenly a fleet of alien ships fills the sky and begins attacking the Capitol. An astounded Bereet claims that this is impossible because they were Krylorian ships from one of her movies. Regardless, the Hulk leads the charge, with others following suit. The invasion is thwarted and the ships mysteriously disappear, leaving the heroes to cheer the Hulk’s actions. We end the issue with a chagrined General Ross accepting the Hulk’s heroic actions and the Leader revealing himself as the mastermind to the invasion.
Commentary: Another rare Hulk cover by Sal. I’m sure reading this in real-time would have one wonder if next issue everything falls apart, since the Leader is involved, but…no. We got another year and a half to go…

Actually, the issue you're talking about is #294. It's there where Banner is teleported to the battleworld (where he shows the first signs of losing control). It's in 294 that he starts having "nightmares".

So, there's quite a few issues before this happens.

Are you thinking of issue #294, where he goes to Battleworld for the Secret Wars mini?
Or #300, where Dr. Strange banishes him to the Crossroads?

Pretty interesting read about the background of how comics are made, but probably a retread for more seasoned readers. But the most noteworthy bit is:

More recently, we've got the remaining arcs and trades of the book roughly plotted out - we're still missing a few details here and there, some of them major, but we know roughly what each trade looks like and we know how the book's going to end. So with individual issues, we're doing what works and feels right, but in the long run we have a definite plan.

So this run DOES have a solid ending in mind, which is definitely a good thing since it won't become an ironic corpse because the sales keep at a good number. This backs up an older interview waaay back when #14 came around and Ewing mentioned he had 4 acts in mind-- thus Immortal Hulk will likely wrap up around issue 50. But... the quote mentions "arcs" so if we don't include the current Earth War one, he could've likely wrote up even more. Either way, we're in for a long trip.
