I think that's the second thing from the TV series that Ewing has adapted into the comics, although in a different way

You wonder how? Maybe they're gonna atomize Hulk or break him into pieces as he heals from it. I miss the days when the Hulk use to be so durable not many weapons could pierce him. Lets just say its the savage hulk that is the most durable. Immortal hulk is not on his level

The Transformations by themselves have been drawn way more grotesque than they used to be as well, so maybe it'll be that.

Also the teacher does have a slight resemblance to Miss Hoover.
