    Was this plot thread dropped?

That was at the beginning of the Roxxon arc, right? Seems premature to call it dropped.

If by “plot thread” you mean Namor and Banner working together I’m not sure what you mean. That seemed a tease for future stories, or a callback to the traditional Hulk/Namor team up.

It just seemed like they were going to do something together within the Roxxon War arc because (at the time) Namor was also dealing with something similar in regards to a big company. But time will tell if that point will be brought up again in the future, but this wouldn't be the first time a plot point was put on the back shelf.

It's a shame, I was really looking forward to seeing Namor some more in this book.

    Incredible Hulk #284
    “Time-Lost!”

    Cover Date: June 1983
    Sale Date: March 8th, 1983
    Writer: Bill Mantlo
    Artist: Sal Buscema
    Inker: Joe Sinnott
    Letterer: Jim Novak
    Colorist: Bob Sharen
    Editor: Al Milgrom

Guest Stars/Supporting Cast: The Avengers, Omnivac (robotic form), Jackdaw
    Villain: The Leader
Synopsis: The Hulk and She-Hulk blackmail Omnivac into revealing how the Avengers were transported back in time. They’re taken back to 1944 to rescue Captain America, the 12th Century for Hawkeye and Iron Man, and the Viking Age for Thor. After the rescues are completed, the group is transported back to an unknown prehistoric era, where the Leader is finalizing his plans to irradiate the planet. The Leader is quickly stopped, which has the villain falling into a volcano. The heroes are then transported back to the present day, where they learn that Jackdaw was responsible for their return after a rewiring of Omnivac. The issue closes with the Wasp offering the Hulk a spot on the team….
Commentary: The last few issues have been damn fun, I think the Hulk would have made a great Avenger during this time. Say goodbye to Sinnott as regular inker…the next few issues have a rotation of various individuals, with a couple of spots with Joe.

It's something to ask Ewing about.

It's kind of interesting that while Spider-Man still fights the Chameleon, the X-men Magneto (Well, on and off) and the Fantastic Four with the Mole Man (although he's more of a joke these days), we never really see any villains from the original Hulk six issue run with the exception of Ross and Tyrannus.

The Gargoyle of course was the first one, but a lot of the idea behind him (with the exception of the Cold War aspect, more or less) pretty much went to the Leader, although his son fought the Hulk once before becoming more of an Iron Man villain. Toad Men appeared once again but then kind of messed with She-Hulk as more of a joke than anything; Mongu and Metal Master also never really faced off with Hulk again but appeared sparsely in some other stuff.

I think you hit on exactly why Hulk’s initial rouges gallery haven’t faced off against him since the beginning. They were villains that can’t really challenge him( especially today). Thus, they’re rendered as “ Joke villains “ now. I think this is why so many of Hulk’s classic, long standing foes like the leader, abomination, the riot squad and Maestro, are all gamma irradiated. They’re the polar opposite, twisted mirror, inverted form and Dark Reflection of Hulk himself.

Even Ross had to powered up to stand any chance against Hulk. His longevity as Hulk’s archenemy is only because he’s Betty’s dad. Giving him a personal connection to both side of the character that no other opponent has.

Although mostly a Spider-Man villain, didn't Rhino also get some gamma enhancement? He does seem to be pitted against the Hulk a few times.

Yes. Rhino’s strength was enhanced by gamma radiation in his second appearance in Amazing Spider-man.The last time he fought the hulk was in issue # 435, the baseball story where hulk pretends to be African American( and yes, PAD does address how inappropriate it is in the story)

That's certainly an odd piece of trivia. No lie, I didn't expect that to be a thing.
