Kyle's 1st (ish ) appearance was such a great issue! As a lifelong Hal fan, even I was intrigued by the new guy, and Marz didn't fail to deliver over the course of the next few years!
Ron Marz wrote the best Kyle Rayner (which makes sense since he created him).
I did like both Geoff Johns' (GL: Recharge in particular) and Judd Winick's takes as well
"My name is Wally West. I'm the fastest man alive!"
I'll try being nicer if you try being smarter.
I absolutely love Kyle's early adventures, especially up to Emerald Knights, especially due to the fact that he crossed over with so many other heroes (From the top of my head: Arsenal, Donna, the Titans, Supergirl, The Legion, Flash, Green Arrow, Batman, Shazam, Wonder Woman, Superman). His book felt right in the middle of the DCU. We still had that with Winick, albeit with a different gravitas, as Kyle became the seasoned expert by then.
I really wish we could get a Kyle-led book set on Earth, that tries to mimic the themes of the 90s series.
Well, Arsenal and Donna make sense because Kyle was actually with them on the New Titans when they finally disbanded in 1996 (the team had existed since 1980, dropping Teen in 1988 because by that point only Danny Chase and Changeling were still teenagers).
One regret about the most recent Titans run in which he joined late is that Donna and Kyle's relationship and his previous link to the team never came up (there was only one more arc after Kyle joined as Nightwing's replacement, so this isn't the creative team's fault) - even though Titans continuity has been restored and Green Lantern didn't even reboot for New 52, so it should be back in canon. I can't understand why Kyle wasn't in The Infected: Deathbringer either, since the protagonists of that one-shot were actually the Titans, and before that issue, he'd been shown to still be with the team. And since the story showed that Donna remembers all her origins (and thus has contradictory memories of the pre-Crisis, pre-Flashpoint, and New 52 universes).... seriously, they've been missing opportunities. And if Kyle is no longer with the Titans, what the heck is he up to?
