    Default 1000 books in 2020

Happy new year everyone and welcome to year 6 of the 1000 books challenge!

The goal, just like in the previous 5 years, is to read at least a 1000 comic book issues in the coming 366 days, starting today!

Keep us updated of your progress and if you fancy write a few lines about what you've read, what you liked and disliked, just to keep things interesting and informative (even if you just pick your favorite and least favorite of your batch).

Usually a 22 pages comic counts as one issue, in case of other formats just divide it with 22. If you feel like your 48 pages long French album is really wordy and takes just as long to read as a 120pg american tpb then feel free to count it as 3 or even 5 issues, nobody gonna shout at you, it's all for fun.

Feel free to adjust the volume of the challenge depending on your circumstances. If you think you can only manage to read 300 issues this year, you are still more then welcome to participate. Same if you think you will read way more than a 1000 issues.

    Happy reading folks!

I think I will go for 1000 comics and 30 books again

Namor the Sub-Mariner, Marvel's oldest character, will have been published for 85 years in 2024. So where's my GOOD Namor anniversary ongoing, Marvel?

This will be my first year trying this. I hope to reach a goal of 1,000 comics.
I have a lot of catching up to do so I might be able to accomplish this.

I always wanted to participate but keep forgeting and when I remember is already september and I didn't tracked the issues haha but this year I will try the challenge! Sure last year I read more than 1000 (with tons of Daredevil and Batman haha), let's try this number.

I too have always enjoyed this thread and wanted to participate, but it wasn’t until this year that I got my act together and setup a spread sheet to actively keep track of what I’ve read. Looking forward to finally contributing and figure I’ll start with 1000 issues since I have no idea what kind of numbers I’ll hit, and 20 prose (primarily consisting of music history and true crime books I suspect...)

I always came aware of this thread when the year had advanced a lot and I was too lazy to count what I already had read, so I will try this time to participate from the beginning. Just a doubt before starting, do you count re-reads too? I love to re-read comicbooks, so I'm curious if usually people do count them in this threads or if it's more common to just count new readings. Thanks in advance

EDIT: Just to be clear, when I say "re-read" I talk about a comicbook that wasn't read in 2020 the first time. If I read Batman #20 (to give an example), which I read the last time in 2019 or 2018, twice this year, I plan to count it once, not twice

Ooh! I’ve always wanted to get in on this, but never found the thread until late in the year. What do we usually do, update the same post over and over with progress? Or post new updates?

yupp, you can count them too, I definitely do. It's just the amount of pages you read that really matters (and when I say matter I don't mean that there are any stakes here, I'm just talking about the basic idea)

it's easier to see how much people progress if you always post a new post with what you've read since last time, but you can include all your previous reads too.
I tend to just post my new reads and then write down my new total at the bottom, because long lists can be tedious to scroll through.

    Thanks!

    So far:
    New reads

Action Comics #1018: I'm starting to like AC again after the Event Leviathan, which I think stopped the pacing for the worse
The Omega Men: The End is Here (6/12): Loving it thus far

    Total: 7

    Re-reads

    Superman Red Son (just starting)

    Total: 0

    Books

The Gambler/A Nasty story (my edition had two in one): Both were great stories with a lot of humor but also a depressing ending. What I've read by Dostoyevsky does avoid both, the happy and the sad ending, having a mix of the good and the bad which I like a lot. Also, this time the russian names and surnames weren't nowhere as difficult to deal with as they were in Crime and Punishment and in The Brothers Karamazov

I have three small kids, so no way will I hit a number anything like 1000, but I just registered so I can participate. (I've been lurking a while.) I'm eyeing a number closer to 250 comic books. Right now I'm at... 3!
