I really enjoyed it. I watched it on CW with my family first, I'll watch it on the app to see the difference. They did a fantastic job though!

Has Stargirl been in anything after the JLU in the New52? I wish they would use her in something again. Young Justice or Outsiders, something.

    Yep, really enjoyed it.

    I watched the CW/WB version.
    What were the scenes cut.

In the first half hour (I didn't pay close attention to the second half on WB) that I noticed-

When Pat brings Courtney to school there is a conversation in the car between them that sets up the dynamic between them that comes into play once she finds out he is Stripesy.

After Courtney gets her ID before we get to the lunchroom scene, she is walking down the hall and sees Brainwave Jr. and others doing their shtick and is approached by the head cheerleader and her sidekick who try to recruit her, Courtney rejects them which sets up the end of the lunchroom scene where the girl calls her a bitch as the one who does is the head cheerleader we met earlier

After Courtney is escorted out, there is a scenes with her in detention watching the clock and observing the guy who was sitting at her lunch table, then rushing out and trying to catch her bus, just missing it and having to walk home, and we see her walking through town meeting a few people. This helps set up the annoyance she is feeling at dinner when she storms off and heads downstairs to discover Pat's JSA stuff and the staff.

I got distracted by a phone call and wasn't paying attention in the second half as my wife watched it, so I can't say if there was more cut from that portion. From what I saw it was mostly stuff establishing or developing Courtney's relationship with her surroundings and the people around her. Not necessarily crucial, but it does put a lot of what we do see in context and gives it some more meaning.

My wife has decided to rewatch it on the app to see what she missed.

Unfortunately, no. Courtney is one of a handful of characters currently stuck in DC Purgatory, which is such crap. Hopefully, her show does well and DC decides to bring her back, she has been sorely missed!

Gotcha! Thanks for the fill in. Some of the commercials had very poor timing as well, but that is a minor complaint for getting to watch it for free. I really don't want the DC app. I hope she gets her costume next week!

Who all was at that battle in the beginning? Obviously Starman, Pat, Hourman, Dr. Midnite...er, Jay, Ted, and probably Alan, all that green flame..., and was the Thunderbolt there? Was there at least pink fire or whatever his color is?

And who all was in the photo? PG seemed to be missing from it, though the Hawks seemed to be there, and not at the battle. There was so much to see in those scenes, and so little time to see it...

I'm assuming that Dr. Fate and the Spectre weren't at the battle, but were either in the photo?

One of the most fun first episodes I've seen in a while. Nice and nicely paced writing, and decent to very good acting. And a show with a fun tone that just makes you smile. That's rare.

One more thing, how many of these did they manage to film before COVID hit and messed everything up?

You can see Sandman (with gas mask) lying on the ground in one shot.

I thought this was a lot of fun. It managed to balance the light touch of the CW shows with the darker tone of the DC Universe shows. Looking forward to watching the next one.

Arguably you could get a lot of JSA offspring on this show over the next few seasons:

    Sandy Hawkins
    Hector Hall
    Northwind
    Jesse Quick again
    Jade & Obsidian
    Nuklon
    JJ Thunder even

Ah, good one, I missed that.

The episode reminded me of the movie Mystery Men. Similar plot, similar feel. More heroic than Mystery Men though.

We saw Jay's helmet, but I am not sure if he was there. He could have already retired and it been on display.

    We definitely saw:
    Starman
    Wildcat
    Hourman
    Sandman
    Dr. Mid-Night

    In this photo:
Left to Right Front- Wildcat, Hourman, Starman, Sandman, Dr. Mid-Night
Left to Right Back- Johnny Thunder, Alan Scott, Hawkgirl, Jay Garrick, Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Johnny's Thunderbolt

Yeah, even without the Spectre and Power Girl, I don't see that team of bad guys beating the JSA...with that line-up, so I'm betting some of the heavy hitters may have not been there.

The Stargirl Aftershow podcast confirmed that was Alan Scott at the beginning with the green energy. One of the podcast runners worked on the show. Pretty cool!

I thought the first episode had a lot of heart. The pros outweighed the cons enough that I'll definitely check out a few more episodes. I like that it takes place in the middle of nowhere, and not in LA. The final scene was super fun. Luke Wilson is great. The actress who plays Courtney doesn't have much to work with, but makes it work regardless- she's real charming and it makes the character a lot more endearing.

Not stoked about the JSA timeline. I can't think of a time less likely to be called a golden age of anything than 2010.
