Again, not necessarily. My grandfather was 6'9" tall. While it would make sense that all of his children should approach that height, it's totally normal if none of them do. There's quite a bit in the genepool to affect something like height. For the record, not one of my uncles or aunts grew to be taller than 6 feet. For that matter, none of my great aunts or great uncles are as tall as my grandfather was. My grandfather was the black swan.
That goes for characters in a comic book world as well. A person who has powers is merely expressing the ability for mutation. It doesn't mean the mutation has to be the exact same mutation. By now, what with everything from X-genes, to gods, demons and who knows what else genetic material in the gene pool, not to mention external factors that also affect mutations, it's not a given that a child will have the same mutation as its parents. There's no hard and fast rule. That's just basic science.
Now if you're saying that it makes it easier for readers to grab onto and appreciate a character because they have the same power as their parents, well, that's another discussion entirely.
Yeah, I’m real curious if the writer will make Monica the mother of Carol Rhodes, in this potential future.
