    Daredevil #120 Apr 1975
"And a HYDRA New Year!" First appearance of El Jaguar
When Matt Murdock goes to meet the Black Widow and Ivan at the airport, he has to change into Daredevil
and go into action to take down a group of terrorists that have appeared with guns a-blazing.
Daredevil manages to defeat the attackers with the aid of the Black Widow and Ivan.
Reunited, the two lovers quickly depart, leaving Ivan to explain the situation to the police.

On the rooftop of Matt Murdock's apartment, the Black Widow and Daredevil talk about their relationship.
Natasha expresses the fact that she used to be so independent, and that she has become less
and less independent since teaming up with Daredevil. Suddenly, to break up the tension of their conversation,

Daredevil swings into his apartment and reveals that he has gotten Natasha a dress to attend a special New Year's Eve Party in.

Natasha is furious to find out that it's a party being hosted by Foggy Nelson, whom she is still angry at for
putting her on trial on trumped-up murder charges. She is about to leave when Matt convinces her to stay.

Foggy attempts to warm things between himself and Natasha.
However, this attempt is cut short when the party is crashed
by agents of Hydra who are led by a man named El Jaguar.

Matt slips away and changes into Daredevil to battle El Jaguar and his men, whom he learns have come to kidnap Foggy.
Although he is injured in the fight, Daredevil manages to gain the upper hand against El Jaguar,
who is beaten to the point where he is fleeing the scene. Before Daredevil can go after him,
he is stopped by Nick Fury who arrives with a team of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.
Learning that the Jaguar got away, Daredevil is told by Fury that the reason why Hydra
is after Foggy Nelson is because S.H.I.E.L.D. is seeking to recruit him into their fold.

because she is the last person he can turn to for a hideout.
He finds Jen at her office and they have a happy reunion, but Bruce tells
her that he is the Incredible Hulk and how he became the green power house.
Jen decides to take her cousin home with her and she talks about her current case while on the way there.
They are followed by two goons because Jennifer made up a rumor about
how she has secret evidence providing Trask murdering his own bodyguard.
When they arrive at her home Jen is shot in the back by one of Trask's men
and Bruce defends his cousin by spraying the hitman with a hose in order to escape. Bruce finds a doctor's shingle

and breaks in so he can perform a blood transfusion on Jennifer.
When she wakes up Bruce knows Jen will be alright so he calls the police
and Jen gets taken to the hospital, while Bruce is brought in for questioning.
At the police station Bruce fears the D.A. will find out who he really is so he turns
into the Hulk while the cops aren't looking and escapes by bashing through a wall.

Trask's men show up at the hospital to attack Jen, but when they try to use chloroform on her

she turns into the She-Hulk for the first time and starts to beat them up.
She-Hulk chases the fleeing criminals through the hospital until the thugs get out and try to get away in their car,
but She-Hulk throws a "No Parking" sign and it takes off all of the wheels. She-Hulk makes them fess up
and they tell her that they were hired by Trask to kill Jennifer Walters so they get arrested.

Her power fading, She-Hulk returns to the hospital using the fire exit in order to keep her identity of Jennifer Walters a secret
and she realizes the blood transfusion turned her into a monster like Bruce, but says she'll learn to deal with it.

    Uncanny X-Men #132 Apr 1980
The Dark Phoenix Saga: Part 4 of 9 - "And Hellfire is Their Name!"
Following their near defeat by the White Queen and fearing that the mansion is no longer safe for them
Cyclops takes the team to the former X-Man Angel's aerie in New Mexico.
He asks to talk to Angel privately, who then flies him to the top of a butte out in the middle of the desert
much to the chagrin of Professor X who wanted them to return to the school immediately.
Cyclops recounts the X-Men's recent adventure and states that they were targeted by a group called the Hellfire Club.
Warren finds this hard to believe as he and his girlfriend Candy are members of the Hellfire Club.

Scott goes on to explain that he's worried about changes in Jean’s personality.
Before he can explain any further, Jean herself arrives and interrupts them to have a private picnic with Scott.
Warren leaves them alone and Jean gets Scott to take off his visor.

Much to his surprise, she telekinetically holds his optic blast in check.
The two embrace and make love on the butte as the sun sets.

A week later on a stormy night, the X-Men return to New York City to
infiltrate the Hellfire Club and learn why they are targeting the X-Men.
Wolverine and Nightcrawler travel through the sewers to sneak into the club from below.

As they are passing through the rapidly flooding tunnels, Wolverine slices open some electrical wiring
pointing out that they could use a distraction later if things get hairy, a move that Nightcrawler finds very sneaky.

Meanwhile, with invitations organized by Warren, Scott and Jean,
and Peter and Ororo attend a prestigious party within the club.
Before they go in, they radio back to the Professor and Angel in New Mexico
to advise them of their plan so that they can carry on if they fail.

As Scott and the others enter the party and try to blend in, they are
spotted on the club’s security monitors by the Hellfire Club's inner circle:
the cybernetic Donald Pierce and mutants Sebastian Shaw, Harry Leland and Jason Wyngarde.

Shaw tells Wyngarde this is his chance to prove that he has full control over Jean Grey and sends him out into the party.
Sure enough, as Scott and Jean are dancing, Wyngarde cuts in and sweeps Jean off into another one of his illusions.
She instantly believes she’s in the 18th century and that Wyngarde is the love of her life, ignoring the perplexed Scott.

Wyngarde takes Jean upstairs and Scott follows after them. Scott is shocked when Wyngarde drops
the illusion to reveal himself to be none other than the X-Men's old foe Mastermind. Chasing after them,
he is blasted by Jean who has now been transformed into the Black Queen and is under Mastermind's full control.

Hearing Scott's scream of pain over the crowd, Storm and Colossus change into costume
and charge after their friend. Running upstairs, they encounter Sebastian Shaw.
Colossus learns the hard way that Shaw can absorb any physical attack inflicted on him
and transform it into strength and invulnerability. Shaw easily defeats Colossus in
battle but Storm manages to escape by creating a thick fog to obscure his vision.

Down in the basement, Wolverine and Nightcrawler emerge from the sewers only to be attacked by Pierce and Leland.
Pierce locks Nightcrawler in a chokehold. But while Wolverine manages to damage Pierce's cybernetic arm,
Leland uses his mass-increasing powers to increase Wolverine's weight until he breaks through
the floor and lands in the sewers below, where he is swept away and presumed to have drowned.

Upstairs, Storm is tracked down by Sebastian Shaw who easily defeats her in hand-to-hand combat.
The X-Men have all been defeated and the inner circle members celebrate their victory.
Sebastian Shaw silently notes Jason Wyngarde's cockiness and suspects that he will attempt to replace him
as leader of the Hellfire Club. A toast is proposed to the newest member of their club -- the Black Queen!

Down below in the sewers, meanwhile, Wolverine emerges from the waters alive and well.
He is incredibly angry, having taken the Hellfire Club's best shot and he is ready to show them his own.

    Marvel Two-in-One #62 Apr 1980
"The Taking of Counter-Earth!" Guest-starring Starhawk and Moondragon
Following their defeat at the hands of Her and Moondragon, the Thing and Starhawk
retreat to the Baxter Building so that they can get a spaceship to follow after them so that Ben can rescue Alicia.
Inside the Fantastic Four's hangar, they decide to take the Skrull flying saucer that the FF have had in their possession
since their first encounter with the Skrulls and follow after the three women who have left Earth in Moondragon's spaceship.

Meanwhile, the three women are on their way to find Adam Warlock's body, which was buried on Counter-Earth following his death.
However, upon their arrival they have found that Counter-Earth has gone missing. However, it's moon is still intact.

Providing Alicia with a space suit, the three women land on the artificial moon and enter the High Evolutionary's secret complex.
There they find the inert body of the High Evolutionary himself, but before they can
investigate further they are confronted by the Thing and Starhawk who attack Moondragon and Her.

During the battle, Thing faces Moondragon and finds himself woefully outmatched, while Starhawk battles Her.
During the fight, Starhawk is unable to stop his wife Aleta's personality coming to the fore of their shared body
    and take over
-- causing the body they share change into its female form who attacks Her with even more ferocity.

The battle is soon stopped, however, when Alicia calls for all the combatants to stop
and explains to Ben that she came with the two women of her own free will.
With the misunderstanding sorted out, the quartet of heroes then decide
to band together to help find Counter-Earth and revive Adam Warlock.
Moondragon uses her mental powers to locate the High Evolutionary 's life force.

Detecting that the High Evolutionary has become a higher being, Her uses her powers to bring
his life force back into his body, reviving the geneticist and restoring him to his previous form.

The High Evolutionary explains what had happened to him:
That Adam Warlock, thinking that Counter-Earth had been destroyed
even though that it clearly had not and something was making Warlock unable to see the world
struck out at the High Evolutionary with a blast of his Soul Gem.
However, before it could strike him, the High Evolutionary advanced his evolution into
a godlike form and his life force left his body before the Soul Gem could steal his soul.

After explaining about Adam Warlock's fate, the High Evolutionary
is shocked to learn that his artificially created world has been stolen.
Scanning space, the Evolutionary finds a unique radiation trail that they can track
to Counter-Earth's location, and so they set a course to find the missing world.

    Savage She-Hulk #3 Apr 1980
    "She-Hulk Murders Lady Lawyer!"
The Los Angeles Tribune edition proclaims Jennifer Walters' murder at the hands of the emerald amazon, She-Hulk.
Meanwhile in jail, the three hoodlums who first tried to kill Jennifer are considering
recanting their testimony since they believe Jennifer can no longer press charges against them.
The third thug insists it won't matter anyway...Trask will kill them because they were willing to testify.
He's right. Two green hands burst through the stone walls and attack the men.
By the time the guards burst in it is too late.
The men are dead and the dying words of the last man apparently implicates the She-Hulk:
"Those hands...those horrible green hands!" Now the She-Hulk is wanted for four murders.

In a secluded beach house situated on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean,
Jennifer Walters is tossing and turning in bed recklessly.
She's having a nightmare, reliving the attempt on her life that first transformed her into the She-Hulk.
She is furious, and willing to hurt her would-be killers severely.

She wakes up as Jen Walters. Jen wonders if she was the She-Hulk.
Zapper comes in to check on her since he heard her scream.
At this point, Buck Bukowski bursts into the room.
He just learned about the deaths of the three hoodlums in the L.A. County jail.
Characteristically, he has come to gloat about how he's going to put Lou Monkton back on trial again
because the three dead men can no longer affirm their testimony in court.
But since she was just dreaming about punishing those very men,
Jennifer thinks that she may very well have killed them as the She-Hulk.
The shock of seeing the headline of the paper increases her heartbeat and blood pressure.

She runs out of the room before either Buck or Zapper can see her turn into the She-Hulk.
Zapper rebukes Buck for his rudeness, and Buck responds by saying that if Jen can't take the heat,
she should stay out of the kitchen. Zapper goes off to look for Jennifer,
but she has already become the She-Hulk, determined to discover what is really going on.

Meanwhile, Jake the truck driver, whom Trask tried to kill, has snuck into a phone booth.
He begs his wiseguy friend "Weasel" to help him out.
Weasel is reluctant to help, but agrees when Jake offers seventy five percent of every delivery he hijacks.
An arrangement is made to pick up Jake at Jumbo's Junkyard probably a competitor of "Monster Joe's Truck and Toe" at midnight.
Unfortunately for Weasel, Trask has anticipated this phone call and his pet cobra quickly takes care of Weasel.
As Weasel dies, Trask picks up the paper he was reading which has a headline of the She-Hulk murdering the three hoods.
This gives him an idea, and he tells his men to bring Weasel's body with him.

At the L.A. County Sheriff's office, Morris Walters vows vengeance
on the She-Hulk for killing his little Jenny, even if he has to do it face to face!

While Morris mourns his daughter's death, Jennifer, as the She-Hulk,
has returned to Trask's Ventura Blvd. warehouse which she passed the other day.
She gets there in time to see Trask's goons stuff Weasel's body into the trunk of their car
and overhears them discuss going to Jimbo's Warehouse by midnight.
They also mention bringing a camera, but She-Hulk overlooks this seemingly trivial detail.
She isn't fast enough to overtake the car, but since She-Hulk knows where Jimbo's is located,
she plans to intercept them and find out once and for all what Trask is up to.

Midnight. Jake sneaks into Jimbo's and it looks like the coast is clear.
He sees Weasel's car and breathes a sigh of relief until he opens the door and discovers Weasel's corpse.
Jake now knows he's been set up by Trask, and that his death is imminent.
He turns around just in time to see a powerful green arm grab his throat.
Only Jake knows the truth about what he sees, but he takes that secret with him to the grave.

Much later, an exhausted She-Hulk finally returns to the beach house.
She stands outside the patio window and waits until she has changed back to
Jen Walters before calling Zapper, who is appropriately watching a horror movie on TV.

Jennifer changes into more presentable shirt and shorts and watches TV with Zapper.
He urges her not to be tense, but she is still uneasy and unsure about her alter ego.
The newscast is interrupted by a special broadcast by her father.
He directs his message at the She-Hulk and urges her to surrender.
He shows a picture of the She-Hulk holding Jakes body and declares her to be
"a kill-crazy animal, fit only to be hunted down and shot in the street like a dog!"
Jen screams in horror and runs to the bathroom.
She remembers holding the body as the She-Hulk and is convinced that her alter ego has become a ruthless killer.
Unfortunately, the shock of seeing that photo has triggered her metamorphosis.
Desperately she cracks open a bottle of sleeping pills, collapses and changes back to Jen Walters.
Zapper bursts in and only sees that she has taken an overdose.
As he takes her to the couch he overhears her mutter "...can't become the She-Hulk again....can't hurt Zapper..."
Finally, Zapper realizes the truth behind Jennifer's strange behavior.
He uses his med skills to intervene to save Jennifer's life...probably by inducing vomiting.
After several minutes, he manages to pull her from the brink and the two have a heart-to-heart discussion about the She-Hulk.

Zapper asks Jen why she didn't confide in him, since he believes he could have helped.

Their argument is interrupted when the real killer barges in---a bulky green robot wearing a wig resembling She-Hulk's hair.
Jen tries to get off the sofa to get help, but she is too weak from the drugs.
So she has no choice but to do the one thing she swore she would never do again... change into the She-Hulk.
Jennifer tries to force the metamorphosis, but she is still sluggish from the sleeping pills she took earlier...
Zapper is on the verge of losing consciousness when a familiar green fist severs the robot's arm and sets him free.

Jennifer has succeeded in changing into the She-Hulk, and she's pissed off that somebody has been trying to frame her for murder.
The robot punches her out the balcony over the cliff to the rocks below.
As She-Hulk tries to get up, the robot jumps on top of her and tries to drown her in the Pacific Ocean.
Off-balance, She-Hulk is unable to break the robot's grip directly, but she manages
to throw her arms backward and create a mini-tidal wave that knock the robot away.
But the wave has done much more than save her from drowning.
The wave also washed away the green coating of paint and reveal the robot's original color which was orange.
She-Hulk suddenly remembers catching a glimpse of an orange hand when
she was running outside Trask's warehouse when she was trying to save Jill.
Realizing that it was Nick Trask who was behind all of this, She-Hulk explodes in fury
and unleashes a punch so powerful, it decapitates the robot.

But She-Hulk isn't done yet. She picks up the robot's head and vows that she is going to have revenge against
the man who killed both her mother and best friend. Nick Trask had better watch out... the She-Hulk is coming!

Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #12 Apr 1985
    "...Nothing to Fear..."
For daring to unite against the omnipotent power of Doctor Doom
the heroes on Battleworld have been anfornihilated their defiance.
Seeing the smoldering wreckage of Doombase is Zsaji and her people who rush to the location
to see what befell the champions who defended them against the evil beset upon them.
From his new home at the Tower of Doom, Doctor Doom assures Klaw that he has slain the heroes
and they will not stand in his way again, that his is certain.

Meanwhile, millions of miles away, the villains who were brought to Battleworld are transporting
the city of Denver back to Earth thanks to the enhanced powers of the Molecule Man.
Curious as to what is happening on Battleworld, the Enchantress summons a water sprite from
Marsha Rosenberg's bathtub and has it reveal what has happened on Battleworld since their departure.
It reveals to her that the Beyonder has seemingly perished and Doctor Doom has stolen his power.
The Enchantress hopes for a moment of vulnerability so she can strike at Doom before he can use his power against her.
When the Lizard begins to freak out, the Enchantress uses the distraction to call out to Volcana in order to make her pay
for helping her reach the Molecule Man earlier in the Secret Wars when he was injured and she wanted to be by his side.
Taking Marsha to a nearby park, Amora intends to steal her life force in order to gain additional power.
Meanwhile, the Molecule Man fights it out with Doctor Octopus who has come to doubt his ability to get them home.
After Owen restrains Otto, the Lizard points out that Marsha is missing.
They find her in the Enchantress' clutches and attack.
When Amora tries to teleport back to Battleworld, the Lizard leaps at her and is transported there as well.
When the Lizard slashes her face, the Enchantress absorbs his life force in order to return to Asgard.

Meanwhile, Doctor Doom slumbers and while he does Klaw tries to get close to him but Doom quickly awakens.
Klaw then begins instilling doubt in Doom's mind, telling him that he may not have killed the heroes as he thought.
Doom plays into this and Klaw creates a hologram showing the healer
Zsaji using her power to revive Colossus, dying in the process.
Heartbroken, Colossus brings his fellow heroes back to Doombase
and uses the medical devices there to revive the others.
Doom denies this theory, even when Klaw suggests that he subconsciously did not want them to die.
When Doom continues to deny this, suddenly he is proven
wrong when Thor's hammer comes crashing through the wall.
Doom's power flares out of control destroying a nearby planet. With the heroes about to besiege him,
he listens to Klaw's suggestion of giving him a portion of his power to deal with the heroes.
Klaw is given a fraction of Doom's stolen power and he goes out to face the heroes.
Using this new power he creates monsters for them to fight as well as a rebuilt Ultron.
The Thing slugs it out with one of the monsters when suddenly he starts to revert back to Ben Grimm.
Through sheer force of will he prevents his transformation, cementing
the idea in his mind that Battleworld allows him to change back and forth.
Elsewhere on the battle field, Ultron has some of the others on the ropes when suddenly he blows up.

The reason why becomes apparent when the Wasp emerges from his ruined shell,
having used her bio-stings to damage his vulnerable internal components.

As the battle rages on, Captain America gets past the monsters and Klaw to confront Doctor Doom directly.
Doom tries to atomize Captain America, but the hero suddenly re-appears every time he tries to destroy him.
This causes Doom's power to flare out of control, what Klaw -- or rather the being possessing him -- has planned all along.
When Doom is finally in a weakened state, the Beyonder emerges from Klaw's body and reclaims his stolen power,
restoring Doom back to his normal state and banishing both he and Klaw away.

With the Secret Wars now officially over, the heroes regroup back at Doombase to try and figure out a way to get back home.
There, Colossus has a funeral for Zsaji and weeps over her grave.
Later, Spider-Man finds that the X-Men have created new costumes for themselves.
When he sees the others doing so as well he finds it curious that
they are not using the same machine where he got his new uniform.

The Hulk's leg is broken and Mister Fantastic binds it in a metal brace.
As the heroes rest after their victory they are surprised when
Curt Connors -- having reverted back to human form from the Lizard -- arrives.
When this happy reunion between Connors and Spider-Man is happening,
Nightcrawler wishes that Kitty's dragon Lockheed would return.
Almost as if on cue, Lockheed does return with another small dragon in tow.
Mister Fantastic meets with the others and explains that residual energies from the Beyonder
are what is causing the strange series of "wish fulfillment" that they have experienced recently.
Hearing this, Captain America goes into a back room with his shattered shield
and is happy to see that he is able to repair it through sheer force of will.

Soon Mister Fantastic is able to cobble together a device that will allow him to teleport them all back home.
First he sends back the Hulk, Magneto, Spider-Man, Curt Connors and Spider-Woman.

Next are the X-Men after Professor X consoles Colossus over the loss of Zsaji,
convincing him to come back with them so her sacrifice is not in vein.
As Mister Fantastic prepares to teleport them away, the strange dragon that followed Lockheed flies into the teleportation beam,
causing some strange feedback, leaving the rest to wonder what will happen to them when they return to Earth.

Before the Avengers prepare to return home as well, the Thing arrives with She-Hulk, who is wearing a Fantastic Four costume.
Ben explains to Reed and Johnny that he intends to stay on Battleworld for a while to enjoy the ability to change
back and forth between human and Thing forms and has selected She-Hulk as his replacement on the team.

After the Avengers teleport off, Ben insists that he is staying. Reed thinks briefly for a moment about telling Ben
what he knows about his transformations and thinks against it, hoping he will discover the truth in time.
Before going, Reed passes Ben the teleportation device so that Ben can use it whenever he is ready to return home.
After Mister Fantastic, the Torch and She-Hulk are teleported away, Ben begins the first steps of his greatest adventure yet.

NOTE: The end of this epic story has great ramifications throughout the Marvel Universe.
Plot threads from this issue continue in Thing #11, Fantastic Four #265,
    Amazing Spider-Man #252, Avengers #243 and Uncanny X-Men #181.

    Alpha Flight #21 Apr 1985
    "Love wrought New Alchemy...!"
Gilded Lily explains her backstory to Aurora,

that a century ago she met and fell in love with Esteban Diablo and learned many of his
alchemical techniques before he was imprisoned underground by the fearful populace.
She then dedicated her life to tracking down the men that betrayed Diablo,
seducing them, then encasing them in gold to torture them in revenge.
She grabs the uncharacteristically helpless Aurora and takes her to her lab intending to statufy her as well.

At that moment, Snowbird is flying over northern Alberta when she's suddenly, briefly overcome with pain.

Bewildered, she notes that only the gods could strike at her being that way, and wonders why.

Meanwhile, Walter comes to in his statue form and transforms into Sasquatch to break free.
He finds Lily's lab where she's about to transmute Aurora and begins to break things.
When Lily turns to escape, Sasquatch grabs her cloak, revealing a mechanical body underneath.
Thinking she's a robot, he grabs at her mask, uncovering a horrified,
aged face that immediately crumbles to dust once exposed.
The entire interior of the mansion follows suit, leaving only a facade over a deep pit of white dust.
When Sasquatch asks Aurora how Lily managed to capture her despite her powers, she changes the subject.

Sasquatch thinks that what's happening with her mind isn't quite like
Jeanne-Marie taking over and wonders if yet a third personality is developing.
