I mean I picked Priest because he did a very good job when he fleshed out characters in his Deathstroke series, like Wallace West or the New 52 Powergirl. Plus he’s a pretty high profile name, or at least I think he is, that I think he would lend some of that profile to Duke.

I would also consider David Walker, Sam Humphries, if not Snyder maybe Tynion or Williamson, and as strange as this may sound Bendis. Hear me out, but Bendis wrote a very good Batman Universe series and he’s great with Street level characters, but he’s not so great with character history at times. However if we were to give him someone as fresh as Duke who he could do anything with in the Batman mythos then he could pull off something really cool.

I know a number have cited Priest as a writer for Duke, but I can't say I'd be on board for that. I'd need to be sold hard on it, and it would not be easy. The biggest thing against him for me is that Priest has very cynical takes he nearly always runs his stories by. Not what I'd want for Duke and his supporting cast right now. Additionally, Priest has story-telling idiosyncrasies that can get frustrating to follow, so I'm not sure that I feel Duke needs that type of burden in how his story is consistently conveyed right now.

If it's the story that I think it is-that is from the Batman Giant issue from a few months ago.

Which in turn might not mean he actually has a new villain, since those Giants are dubiously canon at best, IIRC.

it's definitely the same story but the story comfortably fits into continuity, it's canon as far as I'm concerned. personally I feel this was a better characterization than Hill's Duke, Shea feels like she took her time making her Duke feel consistent with his career on the page; Hill's Duke does not feel like the character that's gone through the things Duke has.

as for the character as Duke's new Villain, eehhh, it doesn't feel like that's what they were going with Danny.

THE SIGNAL (Duke Thomas) is DC's secret shonen protagonist so I made him a fandom wiki

also, check out "The Signal Tape" a Duke Thomas fan project.

    currently following:
    • DC: Red Hood: The Hill
    • Marvel: TBD
    • Manga (Shonen/Seinen): One Piece, My Hero, Dandadan, Jujutsu Kaisen, Kaiju No. 8, Reincarnation of The Veteran Soldier, Oblivion Rouge, ORDEAL, The Breaker: Eternal Force

I was watching Scott Snyder's live interview last night with John Siuntres of Word Balloon (link is here https://youtu.be/CPcZFqzXxhY ). At 1:48:20 Duke Thomas was brought up by the a member of the audience, and Scott said that he and other writers are in talks right now to do more stories with him in the context of the Batfamily. It looks like Post Death Metal or Post Joker War things will change up for him. I'm not sure how that'll affect Batman and The Outsiders, but I figured I'd pass the info along.
I'm currently reading Batman, Detective Comics, DCeased: Dead Planet, Dark Knights: Death Metal, Daredevil, Thor, Nightwing, The Rise of Ultraman and Red Hood and The Outlaws. I'm also trade-waiting the Hickman-era of X-Men comics.

That's really interesting, especially with Cass becoming batgirl again. It seems like Tynion is putting a bigger focus on the batfam next year.

Of potential writers Priest is my most interested writer and Bendis is my least interested writer.

Here's hoping Duke gets a second shot at a solo.

I'd love Duke to get another solo, but honestly I'm just glad DC isn't going to act like he doesn't exist if batman and the outsiders ends.

this is legitimately good news. this gives me a reason besides Suicide Squad and Aquaman to look out for DC content after Lobdell's Red Hood run comes to an end. Snyder/DC have one more shot with Duke for me. I had high hopes for Duke on Outsiders, maybe too high, and even though I'm still glad Hill is working with Duke and doing what he feels is best, his take on Duke and his showings have not been great for me; of Duke's notable writers Hill may be my least favorite.
