Great scans Purp of the good old days of Gambit. Just amazing to me how incompetent he has become in certain writers hands.
It's hard for me to listen to someone not in my position. A caterpillar can't relate to what an eagle envisions.
I am sure that writers makes him incompetent because they hate him.
He threw cards two times in Excalibur 7 and they did nothing. No exposion, no damage, nothing. Just rebound from Warwolf and from a tree hand.
I see it just as trolling. Sad that editors are allowing all this.
Just wanted to remind with some scans how great Gambit is.
I miss this Gambit. Where his original powers seemed first level, and he had chances against the super strong guy ( neither Scott nor Havok have) now 20 years pass to the present Gambit vs any super strong is just a joke... even Cap America beat him.
I just hope that with this repeated story of the 4 horsemen Gambit or use his Death powers at will. Or receive some power upgrade.
I'm really tired that Remy has a level of power simulating that of Jubilee
I'm kind of embarrassed to be a huge Gambit fan and have never known that psi-static trick with his powers. The more you know.
But yes, he sucks now and is a complete non-factor.
Thanks for posting the scans, Purp. It's nice to be reminded how great Gambit can be when written well by people who actually like the character. The reflexes page you posted is one of my favorite Gambit moments ever. I remember not even noticing the cigarette catch when I initially read that. Such a cool little detail

The thing a lot of these scans show as well is that Gambit thought thru his attacks. There was a time when his name actually was indicative of his character. He would take risks or do something seemingly benign or stupid only for it to be revealed later it was part of a larger plan. Gambit really should be Marvel's answer to Batman in terms of setting up a seemingly stronger opponent for a defeat later in the encounter due to some prep he carried out.
Last time we saw him do that was the only 2 issues of KT's run I liked when he cut himself and hid something underneath his skin because he knew he was going to be searched when he was apprehended by the Guilds.

It’s like he’s a Chimera, U-Man, or stricken with septenary mutations.
