I think subsequent writers aren't too keen on Dani's original illusion power created by Chris. Her gained Valkriye's powers of death seem to be dead too along with her horse Brightwind.

Her powers are now limited to just psychic arrows which stunt her victims temporarily which suits her Apache image....

Dani Moonstar is Cheyenne not Apache... the Proudstar brothers (Thunderbird and Warpath) were Apache.

Best on panel reference I could find is from her earliest appearances as the MLF member Moonstar when the Psi-Arrow made their debut (anyone remember her spear period?) where the fear aspect and the neural component are referenced. There may be others...

Anyone else wonder what it's gonna take for the team to get their own damn individual costumes? I really feel like they should be at that milestone by now.

Actually they had their own individual costumes way back in Chris Claremont's original run but later writers ignored that as usual.

Even after Chris left, there was another revamp of their costumes for X-Force.

The New Mutants generation is at the disadvantage of never having been allowed to grow beyond their “team in waiting status” because that would involve either the elder statesman X-Men moving on or being integrated into the larger Marvel Universe. The breakouts that DO happen Magik and Cannonball and Sunspot (more the latter as Citizen V/X) have been temporary. So when they are brought back together, the default back to their group visual identity of dressing alike unfortunately. Much like Kitty Pete’s propensity to go back to versions of the trainee outfit because it is her most “iconic”. Ever the ingenue. She’s breaking away from that, as should the class of “Don’t call us X-Babies!”.
Illyana retaining her Bachalo Hellion in hot pants look just signals that’s she’s the current breakout high profile character.

However looking back at their history of pre-X-Force transition individual costumes, it’s a VERY mixed bag. They are all due to re-graduate!
