New Mutants Appreciation 2020

In my opinion, the New Mutants were written best in Chris Claremont's original run and Zeb Wells run.

These two writers gave equal attention to each New Mutant member and didn't made most of them into weaklings that subsequent writers (including Ed Brisson) did.

Post Clarement period, each writer concentrated on one or two New Mutant, I can only remember these...

Majorie Liu gave Karma character development in Astonishing X-Men.

Hickman gave Cannonball character development in Avengers.

It's really sad that only 1 issue of New Mutants i.e. New Mutants 13 will be in the X of Swords crossover.

I would prefer 3 issues of New Mutants, one for each month.

'Yana for sure.

While Karma, Cannonball, Sunspot and Doug all held swords at various points in Asgard (and Dani a spear), they aren't really 'sword' people, IMO. (Although Cannonball might still have his formerly magic sword and armor, somewhere...)

(I thought I saw Doug on some X of Swords cover, but I have no idea what was up with that. Maybe Warlock-pretend-arm turns into a Warlock-pretend-sword?)

I did not know that about Dani, but yeah, with Sam's stuff, hence the words 'formerly magic.'

Still, for X of Swords, the 'magic' could come back, I guess. It's far more likely for a formerly magic sword to become magical once again than for a dead person to come back to life, and, and *that* happens all the time.

No slight to the characters added after (Boom Boom Rictor Rusty Skids) and aside from Feral even after that in Xforce but this is so great to see.

Throw Sam some goggles instead of the helmet, ditch Doug’s Cyke visor and it’s pretty much a perfect aesthetic, did Art Adams design each of these?

No, no, go ahead and slight Feral, I don't mind.

Replacing Rahne, and not being named Catseye, is unacceptable!

I do like how Luciano makes some artistic choices to allow Sam's legs to remain semi-visible, and 'Berto's costume, despite their power effects (although he didn't go there with Rahne and have her partially transformed, as she did once in PAD's run, allowing her to remain 'dressed' while still all grr and toothsome).
