because they were pretty much useless characters who served no purpose. They were useless in the orginal X-factor book, and except for Boom-Boom, were largely responsible for the decline of the orginal New Mutants book because they didn't belong in it.
Rusty had *NOTHING* in common with Magma, powerwise or in any other manner. If anything Rusty was a poor copy of a wussed-out teenaged Scott Summers

Did I Shadow Kind had anything to do her succeeding? When Shadow King was possessing Karma through the entire Fat Karma arc he boosted her powers tremendously, and even with that Karma couldn't possess Magik without tremendous strain. It was the plot point that allowed there to be a plot so that there'd be any New Mutants still fighting back after 2 issues. In Magik's own words at the time, she wasn't immune, but Karma had to work much harder to possess her. In Asgard Karma possessed her doppleganger which was the Enchantress' puppet, and later had to strain very hard to possess her when she was under Loki's control.
I wish a writer could give Karma cooler moments and develop her powers more.
Even in the teambooks she's part of, it seems like she doesn't get the same treatment as some of her teammates.
Now that Betsy is no longer asian because she's in her original body, writers could push her more.
i don't even know if Betsy still using telepathy, she seems more like a classic hero now.
Yeah, Karma has really gotten the short end of the stick, of the O5 New Mutants.
It's kind of amazing how well Magik has done, for a second-generation New Mutant. She's flat out surpassed the entire first generation.
And yeah, that third generation, Rictor, Skids, Rusty and Boom-Boom, kinda rough. Although Rictor and Boom-Boom have done better than Rusty and Skids. Rusty's one of the few dead mutants I haven't seen much clamoring for to be resurrected, and it's not even that he's particularly hated, just, eh.
(He'd have to compete for 'fire-guy' attention with at least two superfluous Pyro's running around, Match, Neal Sharra, two or three Yashida siblings...)
