Probably just a coincidence but someone over on the zaibatsu reddit when discussing the Gwenon vs Carnage cover mentioned that the battleax Carnage!MJ is swinging at Gwen reminds them of a labrys, essentially a battleaxe used as a symbol in LGBT flags. Really think that's a massive stretch, though. I figured it was a reference to EmJay being the lead guitarist so she gets an axe shaped close to like a guitar.

Shutting down while sounding annoyed or disgusted does point out at her being aromantic, hell, I can see myself reacting like that if someone shows romantic interest in me and I happen to notice.

Although until Gwen herself confirms it, there could still be other interpretations of this, reacting negatively can also mean she just doesn't see that person as someone for her to date at all, which can mean she's not going to date anyone who asks, so that can mean that she'd rather find the right person and isn't gonna bother with people she's not interested, or maybe she just doesn't care about it right now, making her just not think about it, but might do so later in her life, so yeah, until she confirms in her thoughts and actually shows it, it's pretty moot.

So basically from what you say, her being aromantic is pretty likely, but it's vague enough that there are still other possibilities.

It's really how put off she seems that makes it stick out. If she just rolled her eyes or got annoyed that'd be one thing but she literally seems disgusted by it:



Later on she rejects what looks like a middle/high school kid asking her to prom but that at least makes more sense given the age difference and not wanting to feet like an escort. And she's more annoyed than seeming repulsed...though at that point you think she would be considering she could be accused of being a pedo. And of course there's Kosei who has some pretty flirty lines with her but she either ignores it or seems to treat it as friendly banter:



Granted this doesn't really prove anything, as you said. You could just as easily argue that she's simply not interested in a relationship due to how hectic her life is and the fact that she has issues with her loved ones being in danger with her open identity. I actually do find it quite refreshing since Spider-Man and even his clones are well-known for being himbos and either having attractive girlfriends or getting tangled up with exotic temporary love interests. Gwen focusing more on her friends is an interesting twist to her, especially given that she's an open identity hero and needs more support than Peter and Miles.

Dead. He became the Lizard and died fighting Gwen at prom. Then VERY stupidly she was blamed as a murderer for killing a teaneger cause apparently the literal dozens to hundreds of witnesses just forgot about the TWO TON LIZARD RAMPAGING THROUGH PROM that she fought.

Didn't work, likely because of negative fan reaction. They share a kiss but then Gwen breaks it off and suggests they remain friends. This is part of the reason people argue she's aromantic - while Miles acts gushy and continues to see Gwen as the girl of his dreams after the event Gwen never pines after Miles the same way. Also, no idea who Helen is. If you mean Gwen then no she doesn't have a crush on 616 Peter. Hell when she met 617 Gwen Stacy she outright said she finds the idea of her dating Peter weird since 'she never looked at her Peter like that', confirming the crush was unrequited.

Yeah I had a post here discussing whether Gwen was aromantic given that she shows no interest in dating or relationships and the one time she dated Harry it came across more as a desperate attempt to be 'normal' than anything else. Likewise whenever people flirt with her she's either cheerfully oblivious (Kosei being the most blatant where he flirts and gives her his number and her response is 'Yes, making friends already!') or she shuts it down hard with varying degrees of disgust or annoyance. Let's not forget that both Harry and Peter were in love with her and she didn't notice until years alter. Glory even called her out on it:

The only Helen I can think of is a clone of Gwen from Spider-Man Life Story. The real one died, and the clone took on the name Helen and went off for a new life with Ben Reilly.

As mentioned, Pete of Earth-65 had it hard for her but she was completely oblivious to the fact. She tried to date Harry but was pretty blatantly going through the motions. She knows the MJ of her world likes her but always diverts the subject when she starts to think about it.

Weirdly enough about the only person Gwen has ever shown even a hint of an interest in was Miles during that crossover and even then it got portrayed as a "heat of the moment" type of deal and the two agreed not to push it.

So yeah, I could buy into the theory that Gwen is aro/ace.
