    Incredible Hulk #246 Apr 1980
"The Hero and the Hulk!" Guest-starring Captain Mar-Vell.
The Hulk has come to Gamma Base to recover the body of Jarella leading to
a battle with Glenn Talbot in a suit of Mandroid armor.
With Talbot at his mercy, the Hulk was willing to slay his
frequent antagonist when he was stopped by Captain Mar-Vell.
Mar-Vell offered to help the Hulk recover Jarella and bring her body back to her world.
When the Hulk refuses to stop harming Talbot, the Captain is forced to attack the Hulk.
Furious, the Hulk tosses the incapacitated Glenn Talbot at Mar-Vell.
The collision causes part of the roof to collapse on them.
With the immediate threats out of sight, the Hulk begins his search of Gamma Base to find Jarella's body.

When Captain Mar-Vell recovers, he digs himself and Talbot out of the rubble
and frees the Colonel from the damaged Mandroid armor. With soldiers arriving on the scene,
Mar-Vell tells Talbot that he should leave the Hulk to recover Jarella and prevent further destruction.
Glenn pretends to agree, but Captain Mar-Vell's Cosmic Awareness allows him to tell that Talbot is lying.

Mar-Vell decides to create a deception of his own, by pretending to leave.
No sooner is the Kree warrior seemingly gone does Talbot order his men
to gear up as they are going to hunt down the Hulk and destroy him.
Elsewhere in the facility, the Hulk eventually finds the cryogenic storage and forces his way inside.
There he finds the suspension chamber where Jarella has been kept since she died.
When Captain Mar-Vell eventually catches up with the Hulk he is
shocked to see a sorrowful Hulk cradling the body of his lost lover.

Meanwhile, Doc Samson has brought General Ross to a secluded cabin
in the Colorado Rockies to try and cure him after his mental breakdown.
He tries to get Ross to play chess, but when a radio report about the Hulk's recent
attack plays, Thaddeus gets upset and pictures a chess piece as looking like the Hulk.
Panicking he tosses it across the room.
Doc Samson fears that all the work on Ross could have been undone by a single radio report.

Back at Gamma Base, the Hulk begins to cry at the sight of Jarella.
He recalls his first trip to her microworld of K'ai, the time that Jarella came to Earth,
his last trip to K'ai where he battled Psyklop, and lastly her death at the hands of the Crypto-Man.
Seeing the brute in sorrow and grief Captain Mar-Vell reaches out to offer his aid,
but the Hulk lashes out knocking Mar-Vell aside with a powerful blow.
When the Hulk tries to battle Mar-Vell, the Kree warrior uses his Cosmic Awareness
to convince the sorrowful monster that he does indeed plan on helping the Hulk.

As Captain Mar-Vell leads the Hulk to the sub-molecular shrinking device,
Glenn Talbot is gearing up his soldiers including a Beta-Borer device,
a space exploration device that Talbot had adapted into a weapon.
Using his Cosmic Awareness, Mar-Vell is able to determine how to operate the machine as well as how to locate K'ai.

As the Hulk and the body of Jarella are shrunk down in size, Talbot and his men come bursting into the room.
A blast from the Beta-Borer destroys the device, seemingly trapping the Hulk somewhere in the Microverse.

    Avengers #194 Apr 1980
    "Interlude"
Wonder Man undergoes a retinal eye scan to confirm his identity and is officially reinstated on the Avengers roster.
When Wasp asks about his acting career, he confesses that his latest play was a flop.
The Beast remarks that Simon likely has a hard time getting jobs with his “distinctive” non-focused eyes.
But Wonder Man demonstrates that he can, through intense concentration, temporarily assume a normal-looking eye pattern.
He also hints at a new ongoing acting gig, though claims it is a secret that he can’t discuss.

During the conversation, the Vision remains pensive and silent, merely staring out the window at the snowfall.

With Wonder Man’s return, the Falcon decides it is time for him to resign, much to Cap’s surprise.
Falcon confesses he has never felt comfortable being an Avenger
and would prefer to go back to aiding people with common crime problems.
He says his farewells to the team and leaves.

Meanwhile, an anxious man hurries toward Avengers mansion. Beneath his trenchcoat,
he is wearing a hospital gown labeled “Solomon Institute for the Criminally Insane.”

Ms. Marvel finds Captain America outside in the winter storm, reflecting on Falcon’s departure
and the reasons why he and the rest of the team chose to remain Avengers.
As Cap waxes philosophically, two young kids sneak a peek at them over the wall around the outer grounds.
One kid lobs a snowball at Cap, which he easily deflects without pausing in his soliloquy.

The boy becomes frightened and runs away. Ms. Marvel is very amused.

Inside the mansion, Iron-Man has removed his armor in his private quarters and walks around as Tony Stark.

Jocasta, the robotic guest of the Avengers wanders away, baffled by the concept of “small talk”.
She finds much about human behavior mystifying and feels incapable of forging close bonds with them.
Jocasta makes her way to the workout area in the lower floors, where she finds the Vision brooding.
She attempts to reach out to him, but he is in a rage and demolishes training equipment.

Meanwhile, the mystery man has made his way to the mansion’s front door.
The Wasp answers it and he collapses in her arms. She and Jarvis hurry him to the medical lab.

In the rec room, the Beast and Wonder Man are playing ping-pong when Hank takes a break to watch television.
Simon becomes distressed when Hank begins watching a goofy kid’s show, the Uncle Elmer Show. Suddenly,
it’s revealed that Simon’s “top secret acting gig” is on the show, as a strong man named Mr. Muscles. He gets a pie in the face.

The team convenes in the main meeting room to discuss the man. Terribly frightened,
he relates his name is Selbe and begs for their help, convinced that people are trying to kill him.
However, when officials arrive claiming he has escaped from the Solomon Institute for the Criminally Insane,
the heroes have no choice but to turn him over. There is a tense argument,

as Wasp believes the man but Ms. Marvel dismisses him as a mental case.

The Avengers convene their weekly meeting when they realize that the Wasp is missing.
Realizing that she must have followed Selbe back to the institute, they prepare to follow her.

Avengers Lineup: Beast, Captain America, Falcon, Ms. Marvel, Iron Man, Vision, Wasp and Wonder Man.

Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #12 Apr 1985
    "...Nothing to Fear..."
For daring to unite against the omnipotent power of Doctor Doom
the heroes on Battleworld have been anfornihilated their defiance.
Seeing the smoldering wreckage of Doombase is Zsaji and her people who rush to the location
to see what befell the champions who defended them against the evil beset upon them.
From his new home at the Tower of Doom, Doctor Doom assures Klaw that he has slain the heroes
and they will not stand in his way again, that his is certain.

Meanwhile, millions of miles away, the villains who were brought to Battleworld are transporting
the city of Denver back to Earth thanks to the enhanced powers of the Molecule Man.
Curious as to what is happening on Battleworld, the Enchantress summons a water sprite from
Marsha Rosenberg's bathtub and has it reveal what has happened on Battleworld since their departure.
It reveals to her that the Beyonder has seemingly perished and Doctor Doom has stolen his power.
The Enchantress hopes for a moment of vulnerability so she can strike at Doom before he can use his power against her.
When the Lizard begins to freak out, the Enchantress uses the distraction to call out to Volcana in order to make her pay
for helping her reach the Molecule Man earlier in the Secret Wars when he was injured and she wanted to be by his side.
Taking Marsha to a nearby park, Amora intends to steal her life force in order to gain additional power.
Meanwhile, the Molecule Man fights it out with Doctor Octopus who has come to doubt his ability to get them home.
After Owen restrains Otto, the Lizard points out that Marsha is missing.
They find her in the Enchantress' clutches and attack.
When Amora tries to teleport back to Battleworld, the Lizard leaps at her and is transported there as well.
When the Lizard slashes her face, the Enchantress absorbs his life force in order to return to Asgard.

Meanwhile, Doctor Doom slumbers and while he does Klaw tries to get close to him but Doom quickly awakens.
Klaw then begins instilling doubt in Doom's mind, telling him that he may not have killed the heroes as he thought.
Doom plays into this and Klaw creates a hologram showing the healer
Zsaji using her power to revive Colossus, dying in the process.
Heartbroken, Colossus brings his fellow heroes back to Doombase
and uses the medical devices there to revive the others.
Doom denies this theory, even when Klaw suggests that he subconsciously did not want them to die.
When Doom continues to deny this, suddenly he is proven
wrong when Thor's hammer comes crashing through the wall.
Doom's power flares out of control destroying a nearby planet. With the heroes about to besiege him,
he listens to Klaw's suggestion of giving him a portion of his power to deal with the heroes.
Klaw is given a fraction of Doom's stolen power and he goes out to face the heroes.
Using this new power he creates monsters for them to fight as well as a rebuilt Ultron.
The Thing slugs it out with one of the monsters when suddenly he starts to revert back to Ben Grimm.
Through sheer force of will he prevents his transformation, cementing
the idea in his mind that Battleworld allows him to change back and forth.
Elsewhere on the battle field, Ultron has some of the others on the ropes when suddenly he blows up.
The reason why becomes apparent when the Wasp emerges from his ruined shell,
having used her bio-stings to damage his vulnerable internal components.

As the battle rages on, Captain America gets past the monsters and Klaw to confront Doctor Doom directly.
Doom tries to atomize Captain America, but the hero suddenly re-appears every time he tries to destroy him.
This causes Doom's power to flare out of control, what Klaw -- or rather the being possessing him -- has planned all along.
When Doom is finally in a weakened state, the Beyonder emerges from Klaw's body and reclaims his stolen power,
restoring Doom back to his normal state and banishing both he and Klaw away.

With the Secret Wars now officially over, the heroes regroup back at Doombase to try and figure out a way to get back home.

There, Colossus has a funeral for Zsaji and weeps over her grave.

Later, Spider-Man finds that the X-Men have created new costumes for themselves.
When he sees the others doing so as well he finds it curious that
they are not using the same machine where he got his new uniform.
The Hulk's leg is broken and Mister Fantastic binds it in a metal brace.
As the heroes rest after their victory they are surprised when
Curt Connors -- having reverted back to human form from the Lizard -- arrives.
When this happy reunion between Connors and Spider-Man is happening,
Nightcrawler wishes that Kitty's dragon Lockheed would return.
Almost as if on cue, Lockheed does return with another small dragon in tow.
Mister Fantastic meets with the others and explains that residual energies from the Beyonder
are what is causing the strange series of "wish fulfillment" that they have experienced recently.
Hearing this, Captain America goes into a back room with his shattered shield
and is happy to see that he is able to repair it through sheer force of will.

Soon Mister Fantastic is able to cobble together a device that will allow him to teleport them all back home.
First he sends back the Hulk, Magneto, Spider-Man, Curt Connors and Spider-Woman.

Next are the X-Men after Professor X consoles Colossus over the loss of Zsaji,
convincing him to come back with them so her sacrifice is not in vein.
As Mister Fantastic prepares to teleport them away, the strange dragon that followed Lockheed flies into the teleportation beam,
causing some strange feedback, leaving the rest to wonder what will happen to them when they return to Earth.

Before the Avengers prepare to return home as well, the Thing arrives with She-Hulk, who is wearing a Fantastic Four costume.
Ben explains to Reed and Johnny that he intends to stay on Battleworld for a while to enjoy the ability to change
back and forth between human and Thing forms and has selected She-Hulk as his replacement on the team.
After the Avengers teleport off, Ben insists that he is staying. Reed thinks briefly for a moment about telling Ben
what he knows about his transformations and thinks against it, hoping he will discover the truth in time.
Before going, Reed passes Ben the teleportation device so that Ben can use it whenever he is ready to return home.

After Mister Fantastic, the Torch and She-Hulk are teleported away, Ben begins the first steps of his greatest adventure yet.

NOTE: The end of this epic story has great ramifications throughout the Marvel Universe.
Plot threads from this issue continue in Thing #11, Fantastic Four #265,
    Amazing Spider-Man #252, Avengers #243 and Uncanny X-Men #181.

    Avengers #254 Apr 1985
    "Absolute Vision"
Returning to their headquarters, the Avengers search for the Vision,

while the West Coast team sends Wonder Man underwater to enter the mansion through the submarine pen.

The Vision confronts each of his teammates in a different holographic form:
    the Scarlet Witch, as a human version of himself; Captain America, in his normal aspect;
Wonder Man, in casual attire; Starfox, as a floating head; and Hercules and the Black Knight, as a costumed warrior.

He explains to them how a control crystal implanted in his brain upon his creation by Ultron
has always governed his memory and emotions, but has also allowed outside forces to take control of him.
His recent link with ISAAC expanded his mental capacity,
allowing him to mimic Starfox's power to stimulate the brain's pleasure centers
and thus convince the Wasp to step down as chairman and the government to
approve the team's expansion, all in furtherance of his plan for world control.
His teammates, however, each present reasoned arguments that make his plan unworkable,
and the android regretfully abandons his scheme.

Locating him in the mansion's sub-basement lab,
they manage to restore his mind to his body,
whereupon the Vision rips the control crystal from his brain,
then prepares to deal with the repercussions of his actions.

Avengers Lineup: Black Knight, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Hercules, Scarlet Witch, Starfox and the Vision.
Cameo appearances by Hawkeye, Mockingbird, and Tigra.

Script by Roger Stern. Art by Bob Hall (breakdowns), Joe Delbeato (finishes) and Joe Rubinstein (finishes).

    Uncanny X-Men #192 Apr 1985
    "Fun 'n' Games"
Colossus, Nightcrawler and Rogue are engaging in an outdoor training session,
in which Nightcrawler succeeds in trouncing both by tricking them into landing in a nearby lake.
When they take a break, Rogue tells Colossus to focus,
however his mind is stuck on Kitty Pryde, who is finally returning from Japan with Wolverine
and he is still upset over hurting her after revealing his romance with Zsaji during the Secret Wars.

When Rogue tries to relate to him, with her guilt over what she did to Carol Danvers,
Nightcrawler begins to wonder if Rogue also absorbed Carol's seventh sense
and attempts to find out by tickling her by using his teleportation powers.
She gets angry that he is touching her and she hits him a little too hard
but saves him from being smashed against some rocks.
When Nightcrawler cheekily asks for a kiss she drops him in the water and flies away.
Nightcrawler realizes that Rogue is uncomfortable with any sort of intimacy thanks to her powers.

Nightcrawler and Colossus decide to go and make amends with her
and notice that she flew toward an abandoned mansion nearby.
Before they can go their attention is turned to a bright glow from up in the sky,
some strange thing has fallen out of the sky and crash landed near the old mansion.

Meanwhile, at Kennedy Airport, Professor X, Storm, Illyana, Lockheed and Rachel wait for Wolverine and Kitty to return from Japan.
As Rachel waits she picks up stray thoughts with her telepathic power
and is depressed by how many anti-mutant thoughts are in the crowd around her.
This causes her to recall back to her last moments in the future time she comes from.
She and Kate Pryde Using 'Colonel Carol Danvers Air Force Intelligence' as a cover identity were attempting to

break into the Project Nimrod facility to destroy the newest mutant killing robot being developed by the humans.
Trapped in a room that Kate could not phase out of and with Nimrod trailing on them, Kate would say the word
"Dark Phoenix", causing Rachel to use her powers based on a post hypnotic suggestion and send herself back in time.

Her recollection causes her to be faint and she is righted by the modern day Kitty Pride who has just got off the plane with Wolverine.
Their reunion is warm, and Kitty suddenly recognizes Rachel for who she is. Explaining
that when her future self briefly possessed her body her mind was briefly in the future.

Meanwhile, back at the abandoned mansion, Colossus and Nightcrawler investigate the crash site of whatever landed nearby.
To their surprise a number of the trees and a deer have been infected with
the same Transmode Virus as that used by the New Mutant known as Warlock.
Colossus recalls how Warlock explained that he fled his home world to escape his father and wonders if the worst has happened.
Elsewhere in the ruins, Rogue, having been knocked out by the crash landing
awakens to find that Warlock's father the Magus has arrived on Earth.
When he attempts to assimilate Rogue, she fights him off, causing damage by ripping off one of his tendrils.
Before Magus can counter attack Colossus and Nightcrawler arrive. When the Magnus attempts to attack Colossus,
Nightcrawler grabs a portion of the Technarc and teleports away causing him serious damage.
Rogue then flies in and attempts to use her absorption powers on Magus.

This causes Rogue to absorb the Technarc physiology and the feed back knocks her away from the battle.
Colossus and Nightcrawler rush to her aid as she fights off it's effects. This allows Magus to escape,
projecting a holographic image warning the X-Men to turn over his son Warlock or the Earth will suffer.

Later the other X-Men arrive to help try to track the Magus down, however their search turns up nothing.
When a police officer arrives the Professor is forced to use his mental powers to alter the officers perceptions
to protect their double identities and because they cannot find a trace of the Magus, they leave.
When the officer gets back into his squad car he is shocked when he is assimilated by the Magus.
Taking close measure of humanity, a race that he has heard previously defeated Galactus
he decides never to under estimate them again. He then leaves the scene to try and locate his son.

A few months later, Professor Xavier has begun giving lectures at Columbia University.
Just as schools are closing for the Christmas break, Xavier begins to walk home.
Along the way he thinks about human mutant relations when he pauses at an anti-mutant slogan spray painted on a wall.
He is suddenly attacked by an anti-mutant mob. Attempting to defend himself with
his mental powers fails and he is struck with a brick and beaten nearly to death.
The mob flees and leaves him to die in the street.
However, someone has witnessed the beating and drags Xavier away into a nearby alley.
