Lightbulb X-Men Are Not Alone: tributes, plagiarisms, coincidences, lookalikes...

    (In no particular order)

    FACT #1: I'm an X-Men enthusiast.

FACT #2: I'm an information science enthusiast.

    FACT #3: I'm a comic enthusiast.

Put all of them together, add my photographic memory (only regarding pictures, otherwise I'm hopeless) and start the game!

You're very welcome to join in !

There is, of course, John Byrne's Days of Future Past cover, which is still being homaged across many different properties to this day.

    I'll open.

Here's Storm battling Callisto (the one-eyed Queen of the Morlocks) in UXM #170 (1983), in order to rescue his teammate Angel, nailed to a plank (well --at least, he was nailed some pages before). Splendid storytelling by Paul Smith, BTW.

And here's Barbarella, in 1963, forcing the one-eyed Queen of Sogo to release his winged lover Pygar, who's nailed to a sphere.

    Funny thing, right?

Not to mention both evil women are dark-haired, while both heroines got long pale mane and are scarcely worn.

Yeah, I remember the time you could tell from what was going on in X-Men books what movies Chris Claremont had recently been watching.

    You mean like this ^ ^ ? (UXM #143):

Please note that Kitty is a miniature Sigourney Weaver, starting with her hair, and her resemblance as a character get bigger as time went by.

    Among others.

The most bizarre was during his second run, in Uncanny 368. Which was when the X-Men fought a big storm at sea. Very shortly after the film The Perfect Storm had come out.

And his second, more wellknown Alien ripoffs are of course the Brood.

Now, resuming to comics, look at these (coincidence, plagiarism?):

I'm going to chalk that one up to coincidence, if you're talking strictly the image of the bear.

Here's a good little homage. Note: both covers are by one of the artistic greats when it comes to X-Men. That being, Marc Silvestri

I don't really consider that to be anything. A roaring bear drawn with its teeth showing? That sounds and looks pretty generic. Like anyone could think of that for a cool visual. If the thing was drawn closer to how the demon bear is drawn there then I could see it being an influence but as it is? Hardly.
