Question What kind of X-Men reader are you?

I feel like this is an important question:

What kind of X-Men reader are you? Are you the type who needs it to be immersed and connected to the rest of the Marvel universe? Is continuity a deal-breaker for you? Perhaps you're more of an emotional reader, here for the experience? Or are you strictly character based?

What's your type and why do you think that's so?

Does anything impact how you read? Your own experiences or situations, perhaps? Or, say, other fans' opinions or reactions? If so, what can we do to mitigate this? (Or, enhance should you feel the need?)

Where are you coming from in all this? And how can we all see each other's points' of views?

Please, be respectful. This is not a thread meant to deride or insult others. If you want to challenge an opinion or query it, keep it in the context of asking why

I feel like it might do us all good to try and see where we're coming from?

I just read about the characters I care about. That's it.
Doctor Strange: "You are the right person to replace Logan."
X-23: "I know there are people who disapprove... Guys on the Internet mainly."

I'm very much the same, but experiences can differ depending on how they're handled. Is that the same for you, do you find? What impacts that, if anything?

So what makes world-building so immersive to you? Is it how it impacts the characters, or does it have nothing to do with that? What affects how invested in the characters you are or continue to stay? Have you ever just...'dropped' a character, so to speak?

well, it doesnt affect my attachment but it makes reading the books more enjoyable since each page with krakoan architecture and insides, each plant tech and comments about their new life makes me more interested and builds krakoa, its something added on top of it, its like krakoa is its own characther with difrent sides being shown alongside the mutants.

Drop a characther, never not really, interest fluctuates but i will always like them.

Well that sounds really nice; can I ask how so? Like, what about the architecture or tech interests you? Is it only aesthetic, or...? And would you say that's a big factor in how you view the outlook for mutants right now in regards to their new life? What about that, in particular, is important to you?

So what dictates what holds or loses your interest in them, do you think? Could you ever picture yourself ever suddenly disliking a character or how they're handled? What do you think it would take for you to drop one?

This is my deal. 95% of stories I get into, it's certain chars. I like. Makes for tons of frustration, but is what it is. Lol

That's why I'm rarely around much now.

Ok, see, I feel this on a spiritual level. What do you find frustrates you most in this regard? Is it how the characters are handled, the situations they're in, the world...?

Usually handling. Every fav. character I have starts off great and turns into a joke later on. Then the case of pairings. All pairings I like for my favs. either don't take off, don't last long, or don't get as much focus. Then that pairing gets scrapped and they end up taking off in toxic or annoying relationships with characters I hate.

Usually I am pissed & vent, then after a while I drop said character & move to another fandom. Usually that character will fall of hard times (for me), so out I go and to something else.

X-Fandom wise, I really only had 3 favorites. Two of them (Sabretooth + Deadpool) them have turned into complete jokes with no reminiscence of the character I used to like (Jobbertooth + Deadfool), so I jumped ship on them. Deadpool went first -lost interest in him a while ago, and at this point even if the one I love comes back, I still won't care much because it's been too long, and now I simply don't / can't care anymore. I held on a tad longer with Creed, but Rosenberg & Hickman finally opened my eyes to being on a sinking ship that wasn't gonna be rescued. So had to jump & swim to shore.

Down to just one fav. now- Monet. And as little as she's around, it's not enough to keep up with the X-verse too closely. So I just pop in & out of the forum sporadically now.

--Are...are you me?? That's my life story right there!!

But, see, that's just as fascinating: Do you find you mourn for those characters when you have to drop them? Do you feel betrayed at all...how do you move on to another character/fandom because, ya know...it's not them. They can't just be substituted? And what does it take for you to drop that character?

Right now, only read for Polaris, and only when she's treated well and respectfully.

I used to read books like X-Men Legacy earlier cause Lorna was going to show up there eventually, or books like Bunn's Magneto solo because I figured it was relevant to Lorna by association even if she were to never show up. I saw it as something where gradual exposure to associated characters would build my interest outward til I was into all of it. Marvel's treatment of Lorna after 2015 has soured me on that approach, so I don't do it anymore. No point if what I care most about won't be respected in the grand scheme.

A lot of things impact my reading (or, rather, the fact I'm not reading anything anymore). Experiences with Marvel and companies that operate the same way Marvel does. Awareness of what is and isn't possible with writing, vs what Marvel actually does. Comments by editors and executives, especially in comparison to my actual lived experiences and observations in fandom.

I'm coming from a POV in which I didn't really care much about anything Marvel offered until I randomly stumbled on Polaris via the Marvel wikia entirely by myself. I didn't have a solo book, or a playable game or movie/TV appearance, or focus in a major event to make me aware of her. It had to happen by accident, because Marvel's reluctant to acknowledge she has anything to offer or give her a real chance.
I can also be reached on BlueSky and Tumblr. Avatar by kahlart.

So how do you feel right now about Polaris and her treatment? I mean, I can expect a bit frustrate for the fact that she's not in more, but...? And, if I may, can I ask about the process that helped you gravitate towards more characters? Was it only in the X-line or was it broader? What incentive did you have to gravitate outwards? And what's stopped you reading right now? How do you feel about that? (it's ok to vent here by the way!)

And those are some interesting thoughts regarding the impacts, I've not heard much of that so far: Would you say you trust creators/editors/executives ect.? Do you trust what's promised in interviews or do you need to see it to believe it? What observations in fandoms do you mean and how does that impact your reading? For the better or worse, or does it depend?

Ah, I was similar with Batgirl: stumbled in obliviously and then imprinted hard. I found I was able to use her situation at the time and even now to help me make sense of similar troubles in my own life? I was able to reason things out through the plots I was seeing there, and which I've actually continued to do with the X-Men: Laura, Logan, Gambit and Rogue to be specific--was that the same for you, or...? What about Polaris drew you in so?
