I would rather they do what the original NW book did...instead of creating all new characters use some who have been shifted aside for the last few years.

Not loving the new team. Ah well

But! Good news, Timeslip got a mention in Outlawed. I can't think of a more inexperienced New Warrior, mind, but its nice that she's back. New costume, maybe?

Even people who don't touch comics on YouTube are roasting it.

They say that all the time. Frankly, it's just wishful spite; they hate it because it doesn't cater to their tastes or ideas of what a superhero should be or look like, so not only do they want it to fail, they want Marvel Comics itself to fail as a way of sticking it to everyone they see over the last decade or so as having encroached on their territory as self-proclaimed real comics fans. They put themselves in these self-reinforcing echo chambers, especially in places like YouTube, where they only interact with and address people that think and feel and believe as they do, so they presume their views have more weight, credibility, and legitimacy than they actually do. In reality, they're just being a bunch of spiteful punks who want to hoard comics --- the industry and medium --- all to themselves out of egocentric protectionism and nativism.

Yeah, Marvel could not have timed this announcement worse. With Hollywood effectively shutdown all the entertainment YouTubers are desperate for new content. They've latched onto 'snowflake' and 'safespace' and are tearing Marvel a new one. Even channels that otherwise ignore comics are reporting on this for their fans to roast in the comments below.

I wouldn't go that far, but this announcement was hilariously tone deaf. Like this is straight up a case where no one wants this. Where even the group it's being marketted towards is mocking it because of how out of touch the pitch of the book is.

If they honestly believe that then it says more about them than anything Marvel's doing.

He was actually a cocaine villain, which makes it a -little- less of a bad idea!

These are a bunch of pop cultural designed characters that will be dated in a few years.
The Gypsies had no home. The Doors had no bass.

Does our reality determine our fiction or does our fiction determine our reality?

Whenever the question comes up about who some mysterious person is or who is behind something the answer will always be Frank Stallone.

After this run they will wind up in limbo and probably never used again.

Both are single panel appearances, but Speedball's is important. He arrests Snowguard and Locust and confiscates the Champions Mobile Bunker (which makes me wonder if the Warriors will now have use of it). He does have a line, telling them that he learned the hard way (referring to Civil War, when he became Penance).
Poor Robbie is still arresting heroes...

The new warriors will never be what it was because of how they promoted Nova while destroying the others. And make no mistake. Thrash, Namorita, and Speedball were effectively destroyed. Rich was an essential piece of what made the original incarnation work. He’s the flying male brick. He’s the “older brother” archetype in relation to Speedball. He’s the former romantic interest of Nita. Dwayne & Sil - Robbie & Elvin - Vance & Angel- Nita & ? Do see how disjointed the team is now? It surprises me that they are working together. Hopefully they explain why Dwayne was absent when Rage was imprisoned & hospitalization (not that any of his other friends showed up).
I wouldn't say that Rich becoming a major player off world destroyed the New Warriors, but it has altered the teams dynamic somewhat. Part of the problem is that the team is functionally stuck at fixed point and never really been able to progressed past it, leaving very little room for any of them to develop as a team let alone individuals. Speedball, and to some degree Justice, are stuck in the consequences of the Stamford Incident that led to the first Civil War and tarnished the New Warriors as a whole.

Night Thrasher only came back relatively recently and Marvel really hasn't bothered to use him at all since then so he's never even had the chance to evolve beyond what he was the last time we saw him, and I imagine that Marvel is just going to roll all the drama of the Stamford Incident over onto him like they're doing the rest of the team just because it's easy and how they want to define the New Warriors. The same could pretty much be said about Namorita, haven't seen all that much of her since Rich brought her back before the Thanos Imperative kicked off.

Ironically Silhouette seems to been doing rather well given how much she's popped up in the last year or so but it's been by putting distance from the New Warriors and appearing as part of Shuri and/or Ironheart's entourage. And honestly I think that right there is the answer to the problem of the New Warriors, the team needs to evolve in a way that it hasn't been allowed to which entails letting its members develop as individuals independent of the team. They've already attempted this a couple of times with Darkhawk, Scarlet Spider, and Speedball/Penance to varying degrees of success/failure.
The team could work but they have to be given the chance to grow past what they presently are.

I personally think it would be better for marvel to explore developing these characters outside of their affiliation with the New Warriors, whether it be by giving them their own ongoing mini or solo series or by having them regularly appear in other comics in reoccurring or supporting roles. Think of how much more developed Night Thrasher could have been if he'd been allowed to stay with the Ultimates after they phased him out of Contest of Champions, or if Darkhawk was actually allowed to join the Guardians of the Galaxy.
I've been rather outspoken in my opinion that the New Warriors should take a page out of Alpha Flight and just relocate to space with the likes of Nova and Darkhawk, as is it would be a better alternative to Marvel turning them into the Social Justice New Warriors which is honestly the vibe I've been getting from all the promotional material I've been seeing (and don't get me started on those cringy new recruits)
