Yeah that was one of the problems with Trevor Barnes, it was clear from the start he was only in the book to be a love interest. Then his initial rejection of Diana after she made the first move turned fans off and his fate was sealed. It was like, "who is he to turn down our Princess?" Though he was right in the first place because their relationship was what indirectly got him killed.

It'd probably be quite tough to be invested in any other future relationships like that, because we would all know its gonna end up one way - either a break up or a fridging.
