I thought the first storyline was the introduction to team? Though you might be right that the first full team mission could be in the Mojo land.
Regardless promotion and good word of mouth for the start can buy a little time, but if x-fans designate the title elective reading as in fun, but not relevant to the happenings of the rest of their pull list its a big problem. If a title comes into a recession strong it can survive. PAD's X-Factor Investigations lost about a third of its sales in the year after the '08 economic crisis, but once the bleeding stopped the fan base held on pretty firmly.
No one knows the level of market damage for this downturn, but the point stands I think many readers will give it a couple issues to determine if its good and relevant enough to keep on their pull lists. Though I suspect when the title does come out many may still be under lockdown or afraid to venture out for elective pursuits and that is where strong word of mouth and buzzing online will be important.
I will also say controversy was a big plus to House of X and some other titles. If the title gets fans online strongly debating topics it will help the title vs fans viewing the title as escapist fair and wacky hijinks. Even if the title is not closely tied to the main titles if it gets readers debating big time as Hickman did that is a big plus.
