Ha. I love it. I know, imagine citing Mr. and Mrs. X as an example of not tanking. And when Rachel and Alex were in space, that didn’t succeed, either.

Unpopular Opinion #2: It feels like K&Y's X-Force which I wasn't too fond of.

This is all good news to me because now it means that the greater X-Fandom MAY be ready for writers to experiment and try new things which I think is good.for the line in the long run, but I'd be lying if I said thay Hickman's name attached to the new Status Quo of the X-Line didn't help a lot. Thats what he's here for though, I guess.
I find Percy’s X-Force to be far better than Kyost’s juvenile torture porn.

    Well I'd expect that since it's basically a 2.0

Already too many blown up bits and rolling heads for me personally though.

why is there so much confusion about sales when so much information is out there? These numbers are great. SpiderMan is the most reliable Marvel franchise and they're currently doing around 60somethingk. The current side books are selling the same as the last 2/3 years of MAIN books. The All New era did ok but left a bad taste. Each new era/newwriter/every12issues since just got worse and worse for sales. XMEN is still selling great and X4, X5 are getting tons of buzz. X6 is probably about Mystique getting Destiny back somehow so that should be a lot of buzz too.

Also, it's so out there that these books are ordered WAY ahead of time. So seeing so many posts claiming X3 will harm X4's sales is silly. XFORCE got ZERO buzz on here when it came out, now everyone is shocked it's not the highest selling? XFORCE's orders were made long ago. XFORCE got zero buzz till AFTER it came out. Therefore those sales should be reflected in later issues (my guess issues 7-10 should reflect the buzz it got from issues 1-3).

I do predict that the new books coming in (hellions, cable, wolverine, x-factor, new x class) will require a sacrifice to balance out sales.

Aren't these just Retailers purchase numbers and does not reflect actual Reader purchase numbers?
And since many of the DoX boos have gone to 2nd and 3rd printings one can surmise that the actual Reader purchase numbers are higher.

And it doesn't account for digital sales, from people like me who buys my floppies in digital and then trades in hardcopy.

I think there are a number of us who bought every issue of HoX/PoX on Comixology and then shelled out money for the awesomely produced hardcover collection too.

Not necessarily. You are right about them being retail numbers, but that doesn't immediately translate into reader sales. Its usually less. For example, the largest comic book store near me in Huntsville has a couple issues of most of DOX sitting around, and is overflowing with unsold issues of Fallen Angels. Most stores order them in advance, and most are smart enough to order a large number of Number 1s because they almost always sell, and then less and less of the rest of the series. Its why having a pull box for your favorite series is the best thing you can do, since it guarantees your series will have a set number of orders for each issue.

That some of the issues have had additional printings is great for them.

Unfortunately both Marvel and DC barely take digital sales into account. Its a huge problem with the comic book industry. They base continuations and cancellations largely on presale numbers for single issues. The reason most series end at around 5 or 6 issues is because that's around when initial projections end and they can judge if the sales are enough to justify continuing the series. In fact, they usually know around issue 3. There have been a couple of series saved after the fact because of strong collected trade sales (Unstoppable Wasp and Iceman), but they are an exception, not the norm.

Bottom line...those retailer numbers don't really mean squat.
At least not anything over which to start predicting/hoping the end of Krakoa as we know it.

Yes these are book sold to stores.

The 2nd to beyond printing is when all the first printing books have been sold to stores. Which can get you two things.

    1) you walk into a comic book store and see all 7 printings of a book-looking at YOU Star Wars.

    2) You walk into a comic book store and you can't find the first printing-Miles Morales #1, Naomi 1-4 & Moon Girl #32.

    A lot of times it's number 1.

Right now Marvel is heading towards an issue-too many books out and some folks are going to trade wait of stop buying.

Why because SOMEONE else has something that they want or budget issues. Or they can get the books CHEAPER-the issue with having 105K is that leaves a LOT of unsold books for bins.

Remember we got some milestone numbering books coming out this year-Wonder Woman, Savage Dragon, Maybe Flash and Black Panther. Heck even Birds of Prey.

So sale numbers are going to get screwy in the coming months.

So...the retail purchase numbers don't say/predict much...because they don't take into account the broader sales picture. At least not so early in the sales-ranking game.

No, they still say a lot. It's the number Marvel and DC use to determine if a book continues. After a book gets too a store, they don't care. At that point, they already have their money. If stores order less of a book going forward, then that's a sign that it isn't selling, and the company starts making changes.

Yes, its terrible. Yes its inefficient. But that's the system they use. Blame Diamond Publishing.
