Default Thoughts on Joe Kelly's JLA?

One of the rare runs in comics that gets progressively better as it goes along. Kelly wrote the quintessential Plastic Man story in JLA 65 as well as the greatest Martian Manhunter story arc I've ever read with Trial by Fire. I loved the new additions to the Justice League to his run including Manitou Raven, Major Disaster, and Faith, as well as the return of Firestorm and the Atom.

The only downsides to the run is the unwarented length of the Obsidian Age and the lackluster JLA 100, but other than that I believe it to be the best JLA run after Morrison.

    I'm with you mate.
I thought it was pretty damn solid.
The issue you mentioned, #65 was an absolutely ripper.
Lord knows the book got a lot worse later on.

Tell me about it. The book was on it's last legs for 35 issues because there was no clear direction.

I only read the Wonder Woman broken lasso three-parter but I enjoyed it even if that felt like something more suited for her book. But pretty good as far as Diana in the modern JL book goes.

If I remember correctly this is when Mahnke was on art; this was a pretty good run.

Also didn't Kelly write Justice League Elite, that was a dope run too

It’s one of my favorites! I started collecting comics regularly during his run so it holds a special place in my heart.

It was pretty damn good. One of the best JL runs ever in my opinion and at times on par with Morrison's.

(Kelly still writes a pretty terrible Ollie though).
