Yeah, the art this issue was very something. Thought it was Gleason, but this artist is cool nonetheless! Hope he's on for the next issue!

He's on for this arc, then it's back to Ottley for another three issues! I'm glad we're getting actual rotating artists again!

I liked this issue a lot.

The fact that Jameson who's on Spider-Man's side is as much of a pain as before is great and the dynamic between JJJ and Peter is excellent.

Only thing I don't get is the more unsympathetic take on Norah Winters, as some kind of hack editor. Because Kelly Sue DeConnick and others established her as a journalist who does give a damn

Lets face it, about 90 percent of online journalism misrepresents the stories with the headlines.

I never cared for Norah Winters until I read Kelly Sue DeConnick's Osborn miniseries with Emma Rios (which is an underrated gem that everyone should read) and in that KSDC gets her character right, her dialogue, her speech and brassy attitude, very much a 21st Century journalist and a 21st Century character (which is apparent in any of her interactions with Urich, Peter and others in that). She's easily the best new character introduced in BND, or rather maybe the only good character (well her and Mr. Negative).

I gather that Slott didn't know what to do with her later in his run, like he wrote her out after Superior Spider-Man, and mostly made her a satellite to the story of Phil Urich (i.e. her boyfriend). I actually do think that Norah Winters and Jameson make a great duo and should bounce off more. I think of Norah as Jameson's daughter-he-never-had or his true heir in spirit.

Just that Spencer's take on online journalism seems weird and a little dated. That bit about Norah employing freelancers at pittance and so on seems pretty tone deaf after Gawker-media and other outlets unionized recently. It's not something that makes sense for a character intended to be sympathetic. And of course Spencer is settling some scores with the whole backlash to "Hydra-Cap" thing but it's not clear if he's being self-critical here or if he's mocking the fans. Which I guess is how it should be. As a rule, the Daily Bugle has always been a mirror for the Marvel comics inter-office stuff ever since Ditko dramatized him negotiating a pay rise from Martin Goodman in the end of Master Planner where Peter gets a higher raise from Jonah. I think writers need to get over this whole complex about the Daily Bugle and Jonah being relevant because news, media and information won't go anywhere.

I have some other issues with the portrayal of Jameson but I'll wait for the next issue to make that known.

I enjoyed the hell out of this issue, so much. i enjoy Jonah as a character and to be honest my biggest fear is that writers may mindwipe him and he goes back to not know Peter's secret. that would be upsetting, and undoes the great work Chip and Nick been doing, im loving this and its character progression.

You're very welcome, and yeah, Iban Coello does great work, too. I've been enjoying his art since his contributions to Cullen Bunn's Venomverse trilogy and even more so his recent work in the Venom issues tying into Absolute Carnage. Having him finally on Spider-Man himself is a treat.

This was a tough issue to get through. Had to put it down halfway through. The Kindred storyline is the only interesting/compelling/ good thing for me in this book under Spencer. I'm happy other people are enjoying it though.

The spy story has been going on pretty long, and this had some plot-induced stupidity for Jonah, as well as bad journalism for Norah, who was never this careless about the truth.

JJ has been trying to clean up Spidey's name for a while, and he always was an attention whore, and if he has an objective, he tends to try to it without really thinking of the consequences (Scorpion being the most obvious example), it does seem something in-character for him to do, since he wants to help clean up Spidey's name, but doesn't realize that telling everyone that he was on a secret mission would get in Spidey's way.

Norah was pretty bad here, yeah, seems like a case of Flanderization, which sucks.

I am the only one who feels this book has actually been getting better compared to the first year and I'm starting to think it's just because Peter's life is interesting again and there is an overarching plotline that still exists from arc to arc beyond aimless Kindred teases. Jonah + Norah helps a lot, too. That TnM scene was hilarious.

Also, why was Red Ghost at that Casino when Spencer killed Red Ghost?
