Yesterday Kansas City signed Demarcus Robinson (WR) to a 1 year deal loaded with incentives. Its a weird situation as KC seemed ready to let Robinson go but it adds fuel to KC waiting to save money on June 1st and cut/redo Sammy Watkins deal. KC will enter the season with 4 WR's again that could line up to start again with Mahomes : Tyreek Hill , Robinson , Watkins and Hardman.

Hardman was a solid rookie WR his 1st season in KC and Robinson is coming back. So ...something will have to give here.

Its hard to believe that Kansas City has had great TE play the last near 20+ years. From the greatest TE that ever played in Tony Gonzalez to now Travis Kelce. Someone a few teams passed on due to his previous character issue (he got in trouble in college , but made changes in his life to be better) and his not being real fast etc.

Kelce has had a solid career thus far after an injured 1st year in KC. But in 6 seasons as a starter Kelce has 507 receptions for 6,465 yards and 37 TD's, To pass Gronk numbers wise it will be another full season from Mahomes to do it.

While he's not gonna be mentioned in the breath of Gonzalez (not many can really) ; Kelce is on his way to being KC's , 2nd great TE. If he strings 2-3 more big 1,200+ seasons he's gonna get debated on it. Now I can't see him playing til he's 37 like Gonzalez did. And even then Gonzalez was a rare physical phenom who rarely missed games and in fact was so durable its insane at the position and grind. I mean a big reason Gronk retired as we saw was his body was starting to slip on him as injuries mounted. TE in the NFL is a grueling hard position. (How Gonzalez managed to do it 17+ seasons is amazing)

But lets examine the TE's picked before Travis Kelce...

    - Tyler Eifert : Considered the top TE at the position. He was a stud as the video details. At this point Eifert had missed 50+ games in the video. Recently signed with Jacksonville for 2020 and to date has 185 receptions for 2,152 yards and 24 TD's in his career. Eifert is a year younger than Kelce and will turn 30 this season.

    - Zach Ertz : The video makes it clear that this is a case where really Ertz has played really great for the Eagles and been their main weapon for Wentz or Foles. In fact in 2018 as people critiqued Wentz as he always seemed to focus on throwing to Ertz in every situation. This lead to him setting the NFL Record for receptions for a TE with 116 in a season. Also Ertz numbers are close to Kelce's 525 receptions , 5,743 yards and 35 TD's, (we won't get into that per game averages etc...Ertz was a solid TE pick here)

    - Gavin Escobar : Dallas selected him in the 2nd rd and imagined him becoming a tandem with Jason Witten and eventually becoming the main TE. Instead what they got career wise for 4 seasons was 30 receptions for 333 yards and 8 TD's. Escobar hasn't played since 2016 and is out of the league.

    - Vance McDonald : Before George Kettle became a huge deal ; the 49ers selected McDonald in the 2nd rd of the 2013 Draft. McDonald really never has became a big star TE. In fact in his career his numbers are 166 receptions for 1,937 yards and 15 TD's.

I actually remember the 1991 Falcons and seeing a few games. With MC Hammer on sidelines during the 2 Legit 2 Quit era.

But the end part details why Atlanta failed for a number of years after and how not long term thinking hurt the team.

    - Jerry Glanville was built with a mindset of WIN NOW and didn't think of the years ahead. With Farve's drafting he really didn't want to play a rookie and he made every indication he did not favor Farve at all. As he told Falcons GM he favored Browning Nagle more than Brett selection wise and then went about trading for Billy Joe Tolliver at one point in 1991.

But as Glanville admits , had he knew Miller's career would end with a knee injury essentially in Atlanta that next season as he traded Farve away , he doesn't do the trade. But he rode the guy who won 11 games and had a career year.

    - Deion Sanders meanwhile wasn't pushed to be kept in 1994 as Atlanta's owners then didn't want to pay him big bucks. As shown he went to the 49ers and won a Super Bowl.

    - Andre Rison also left for more money the next year and finally won a Super Bowl with....Brett Farve in Green Bay.

    - The team just wasn't built to last for the future as the narrator details as others. Everyone went their own way by 1994.

What in hell are they drinking down in Nawlins:

Opinion: New Orleans Saints' plan for NFL draft war room at a bar is dumb, dangerous

Congratulations, New Orleans Saints. You’ve finally found a way to be dumber than Mike Ditka on draft day.

The Saints are planning to hold their “war room” at the Dixie Brewery. These would be the same Saints whose coach, Sean Payton, just got the all-clear after having COVID-19. The same Saints who are based in one of the hottest spots in the country outside New York City for COVID-19 cases.

Payton says the team will follow proper social distancing and limit the number of people in the room. But that’s beside the point. The optics of this are flat-out terrible and will jeopardize health and safety in a city that can least afford it. If the Saints can’t see this themselves, then the NFL needs to shut down this awful idea.

George Kittle is better than Gonzales or Kelce and its not even close IMO. He won't put up the stats as the 49ers are a run oriented team but he could easily do so if they were a pass first team. What makes Kittle so great is he unlike most great receiving tight ends is also a ferocious blocker and he is the main reason San Fran was able to run out so many different backs and still have great success.

Kittle has to do a few things before you praise him as better than Gonzalez (like you did Gronk)

    - He has to stay healthy for a number of seasons which is easier said than done. A number of TE's battled injuries who were sure bets to be better than Gonzalez : Gates , Gronk , Graham etc.

    - The 49ers may have 3 solid RB's that had close to 2,000 yards on the ground but they have Kittle , Sanders and Samuel who will get the ball in passing game. Jimmy almost threw for 4,000 yards this past season (3,978). So Kittle will get his chances to catch a lot of passes as usual.

But again he has to string more seasons together to catch Gonzalez. Right now the greatest TE is in Canton. Kittle could be on his way to it. Just stay healthy is the key and that position is a hard one for that.

What makes Gonzales so great is that he is great no matter who is QB and who is the coach. He's no-excuses Tony! Undeniably top 5 and maybe the best ever. Kittle is young and talented. Come back when he's old and talented.

Gonzalez was truly special. He played with QBs like Elvis Grbac , Damon Huard and Brodie Croyle. He was legit KC's #1 option every season. A fact a number of defensive players said they were told to double and triple team him...yet he always was somehow getting open.

Bill Belichick told a story that even when Gonzalez was near the end of his career in Atlanta..he was still beating his double team coverage.

So Bill joked he literally had 3 guys just jam Tony at the line to stop him. The next yearbit became an illegal play to do but then as Bill said they had no choice.

Gonzalez was just that great a player.

    - After 2 months of debate Kansas City and Sammy Watkins came to a new deal which had Watkins accept a pay cut. He was due $14+ million with incentives that could have pushed it to $21 million. Watkins took a $5 million pay cut for 2020 and incentives (which would be unique if he hits them) would push the deal to $16+ million. With KC putting those on the 2021 salary cap.

    - Its reported KC is pushing to get Chris Jones new extension done which would free up more money for the cap and help them ahead. The last big deal will be Pat Mahomes.

    - The Chicago Bears have came out and said Nick Foles will be competing with Mitchell Trubisky for the starting job this summer. Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy made it clear that Trubisky is having to compete for the job now.

Bill O'Brien tried justifying trading DeAndre Hopkins yesterday with the defense of "he wanted a raise".

Well, heaven forbid a guy becomes one of the top 3 receivers in the league, and want to be paid more for that production.

Especially when the public will typically buy into a 'he wanted too much money which would have hurt the team in other areas' narrative rather easily.

Here is how you really should answer the question if you do , do a trade like this.

    - "I examined the salary cap situation and realized with a number of marquee players on the roster today with Watson , Watt and Tunsil we had to make hard choices ahead. Because we have to prepare for the long term and we only have so much we can do. A number of teams are making hard choices the 49ers had to trade a key defensive lineman for draft picks. Because your in a tough spot. The Chiefs won the Super Bowl but are so against the cap they have had to watch what they do in free agency and ahead."

Now being honest the trade was ****. A NFL Analyst brought up that O'Brien's 2 key trades of 2 big players have netted nothing in particular the last 2 seasons. He traded Clowney away too late after really fucking him around on an extension til the summer. By this point its said O'Brien lost a ton of leverage as teams had set their rosters and he was forced to trade the guy for 2 players like Barkevious Mingo (0 sacks in 2019) , Jake Martin (3.5 sacks) and a 3rd rd pick.

And the Hopkins trade as we know netted nothing as well. So both trades were basically **** trades that O'Brien looks bad on.

It's hard for Bill O'Brien to play the "LOOK AT THE MONEY I'M SAVING BY NOT HAVING HOPKINS" card because...

He traded and got David Johnson's $10 mil/year contract, instead.

Yep...he got a player on decline and hell , people were thinking Arizona was gonna have to either send a draft pick with Johnson to get rid of his salary or just cut him outright.
