    NFL News ,

    - Philadelphia signed Jason Peters to a 1 year deal returning him to the franchise. Peters who is a potential Hall of Fame LT after 16 seasons , will be asked to play guard now as Brandon Brooks was lost with an injury. The deal for Peters is worth up to $6 million for the season with $3 million in guarantees.

    - Washington saw young 2nd year WR Kelvin Harmon be lost for the season as he had ACL surgery. Harmon is 23 and had a decent rookie season being a 6th rd pick.

    - Jacksonville has a big decision ahead as their star DE Yannick Ngakoue is holding out and has demanded a trade. He was tagged back in March but refused to sign the franchise tag. According to a report 3 teams maybe interested in Ngakoue but last year Houston who traded away their big time DE didn't get big compensation. So Jacksonville may not get big compensation for him as were nearing the start of preseason.

    - After threatening to possibly hold out if he didn't get an over $20 million a year , long term deal ...the KC Chiefs inked Chris Jones (DT) to a 4 year $85 million dollar contract. This was the last big signing Kansas City needed to do as the season approached and people questioned how they would keep Mahomes , Jones and Watkins. Jones will average $21.5 million a season.

    - Cleveland is close to an extension for DE Myles Garrett. The deal will be a 5 year $125 million dollar contract. Garrett will get $50 million fully guaranteed and will get guarantees up to $100 million possibly. His deal makes him the top defensive player per year $25+ million a year cap wise. This will keep Garrett in Cleveland til 2026.

That move was as inevitable as the sunrise after Brooks was lost to injury, it was only a question of when Peters would return and for how much.

Are the Chiefs okay to keep the name? I’ve been presuming they are thanks to it being a title, and because the Hunt family has been trying to get ahead of anything by working with Native representatives, but some outside-of-KC perspective would be nice.

So that could be a problem. As a long time Chiefs fan here who suffered through some terrible years on CBR , well..its nice to see a fan here as well. But yeah the team may have an issue coming up.
    Well ...

MLB's Cleveland has begun a name changing movement.

Also, all eyes appear to be on Chiefs next already. So get ready for that ... MLB's Atlanta is also behind the 8 ball on this.

Kansas City does have some advantages over the others; the mascot has been KC Wolf for decades, the team name is somewhat less automatically connected to native tribes, and the Hunt family has been trying to get ahead of it by approaching and cooperating with native groups for the last several years in some pre-game ceremonies and joint actions. You could also modify the existing icon to be a different kind of arrowhead if you had to.

The biggest impediment to a name change would probably be the fans. The Chiefs themselves have been avoiding most cultural appropriation in their official gear and merchandise, and I don’t doubt that the Hunt family is savvy enough to want to avoid unnecessary bad publicity. But some of the fans still out on headdresses, the Chiefs’ tomahawk chop is famously loud and popular in the stands, and the city is located between two very staunchly Republican states.

If I were the Hunts... I’d be in constant contact with the contacts I already have with some tribes, have a plan going forward to make the change if it is needed, and quietly start trying to cut down on problematic elements *right now* to get ahead of it. The tomahawk chop, for instance, might be slowly supplanted by the chorus from Tech N9ne’s “Red Kingdom” to try and get support behind it as a replacement (and it might work out very well if the Chiefs continue to enjoy enough success to make the nickname stick.)

Still, the main thing would be to make sure you don’t find yourself up a creek without a paddle on the issue. If the Chiefs can successfully honor native peoples and get that endorsement, that would be ideal for the organization, but if not... maybe try and pressure Washington to go with Redtails, so that “Wolves” are still available.

I wrote a book with them. Outlaw’s Shadow: A Sherwood Noir. Robin Hood’s evil counterpart, Guy of Gisbourne, is the main character. Feel free to give it a look: https://read.amazon.com/kp/embed?asi...E2PKBNJFH76GQP

This looks at the Art of becoming a NFL Bust. And rattles off the usual players. But 2 of the biggest QB busts its insane to think of , just didn't care to really put work in. That they let their off field situations be more important.

Maybe the funniest story was JaMarcus Russell who while with the Raiders was handed a DVD to study plays as a trick in a way. The DVD case had nothing inside. It was basically to see if Russell would tell the truth and open the case. Well , he didn't and the story became a silly one told. He would lie and say he studied the plays and all. It showed some guys in locker room that Russell was not taking his job serious and worried them then.

For me, the name is fine. So is the native imagery. Hell I would have preferred the kept the imagery in Washington and just changed the name. The climate wasn't going to allow it, but nothing about the logo was inherently racist. All that said, if you're a KC fan I'd be prepared for that chop to be banned, though.

Makes me wonder about the San Diego State Aztecs, who a while ago got rid of their (in)famous mascot, Monte Montezuma. They still have the name, but should they?

In NFL News , Dak Prescott will play on the franchise tag this season. He will make $31.4 million on the franchise tag this season.

Prescott was offered a deal between $3-35 million a season for 5 years. With $110+ million guaranteed and $70 million owed the the 1st 2 seasons with a $50 billion signing bonus. The deal was turned down by Prescott because he didn't want a 5th year on the contract and wanted another big shot at a contract. The Cowboys have said all their deals lately have been for 5 season extensions.

No, just that they fired anybody not white that disagreed with their opinions and demanded all picks and starters "be as many white people as you can get" among other things.

He required women to pass fitness tests annually.

He wanted his office to operate like Mad Men.

And the minority partners in ownership of the team all want out. They've pushed for the name change and are trying to get rid of him.

Front office and team personnel fucking media members in exchange for scoops and leaks.

Protecting leadership, coaches, players from getting in trouble with their wives, etc and then using that information for blackmail, leaks and to keep people obedient like Gruden, Allen, McLovin.

Creating sex "traps" to gain leverage on local officials and team members.

    And that's just the beginning.

    EDIT TO ADD:
Several players are starting to step forward, stating they were forced to sign NDAs.

Hmmm. How about calling them the Tushka Chipota? That was the code talker word for soldier. Then we could all shorten it to "The Tushes"
