There is no Kakarot, only Goku. Which I think stands in stark contrast to Kal / Clark, who are both equally real expressions of who Superman is.
Honestly if DC did a reboot I'd just want it to be like the Morrison Action Comics again, with more focus devoted to the pseudo Golden Age, and a better costume.

Reading List (Super behind but reading them nonetheless):
DC: Currently figuring that out
Marvel: Read above
Image: Killadelphia, Nightmare Blog
Other: The Antagonist, Something is Killing the Children, Avatar: TLAB
Manga: My Hero Academia, MHA: Vigilanties, Soul Eater: the Perfect Edition, Berserk, Hunter X Hunter, Witch Hat Atelier, Kaiju No. 8
Yes, here on earth X6, as impossible as it may seem, Kal-El's rocketship never arrived from Krypton, but was intercepted by Darkseid, who raised Kal-El to be his enforcer! Now, only earth's greatest hero, the Superman known as "Doc" Luthor, stands between the tyrant prince Kal-El and his dreams of conquest!
But! Can there really be no more good in Kal-El? READ AND FIND OUT!

I'll be honest, I haven't seen anything Dragon Ball in like 20 years. I have no idea what's going on with that franchise.

You will have to wait until 2026.
Well, two things there. One, we don't know for sure a company wide reboot will happen even after 5G. Its wholly possible, but there's a whole host of other things that could happen. Soft reboot, just a reversion, or heck can't dismiss the possibility, however slim knowing DC's track record, that things could just keep moving forward. Just impossible to know for sure. Second, its hardly set in stone that 2026 will be the end date even if we assume it will indeed end. Doomsday Clock uses that date but I'm positive that's not an exact science based on actual set plans. Its just a guess that fit into the meta points he was making about initiatives beginning and ending and how that will presumably affect the multiverse in the lore (and even that, who knows if they stick with) I'm sure Johns doesn't know for sure its ending then, nor anyone else at DC. Like any initiative they'll play it by ear and note instead when the sales get to a panic point. Maybe that's well before 2026. Maybe its after. Maybe this is the answer they've been looking for and it sticks a lot longer. Who knows.

"They can be a great people Kal-El, they wish to be. They only lack the light to show the way. For this reason above all, their capacity for good, I have sent them you. My only son." - Jor-El
He should develop his powers at 13 and become full-fledged Superman at 18.
I'm just blowing smoke as a frustrated fan, but if there's really another company-wide reboot in 2026, then they should do a wholesale change of editorial staff, or just give up the comics business. How many mulligans do you need?
On the flip side, if you think your fanbase is going to turn over completely every five years, I guess this would be acceptable...
Anyway, limited powers at birth, with gradual growth. I'm okay with a spike at puberty, and I like the idea he doesn't fly until adulthood.
EDIT: As for when he starts his career, I like 17, maybe earlier if you incorporate his team with the Legion. I'm mixed with Legion, but I positively don't like stripping his history from the Legion, or giving some other character Superman's history.

By 2025 I have to question how long physical copies will even still be around. If they are going to phase them out, it would seem like a good time to restart the entire franchise as an all digital one.

Nah! Goku fully embraces his saiyan instincts. He doesn't take care for his kids, loves figting, saiyan pride, getting stronger... Etc. But, goku has managed to focus it and works under strict bushido code. I would say goku is more balanced than clark is. He even acknowledged himself as kakarot to broly. "some friends call me, goku. But, broly. Call me kakarot". Broly is the purest form of a saiyan. He is a beast run by primal instincts. It stands to reason why its a meeting of three saiyans.
John Byrne's Man of Steel. It's the most realistic version.
Im on the same page as everyone else.
Powers when he's young but he's a rumor/urban legend till his 20s.
