Default Things you MISUNDERSTOOD as a kid. ;)

I liked to look at the movie ads in the paper as a kid. One day there was an ad for The Best little ...WARE..house(?) in Texas starring Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds. I wondered why they made a movie about a storage facility...

Also, my dad kept buying this sleazy "T&A" tabloid newspaper, "I only buy it for the racing form and even that's no bloody good!" he'd claim. One time the sleaze rag ran ads for videos starring "Mr Big" John Holmes. I wondered what was special about him. Weren't "those movies" about nudey women or something?

    And YOU?

Can't recall how old I was but when the inevitable how are babies made topic came up with my mother she was flustered and told me that a guy gives a woman his penis. So for a long time I literally thought that men no longer had a penis after a woman got pregnant.

I thought Ava Gabor and Zsa Zsa Gabor were the same person when I was a kid. I thought "Zsa Zsa" was just Ava using a nickname.

Heh. It was about 1972 when I started reading the movie ads in the newspaper (I was about six). Now this was at the same time porn went mainstream, so I recall all of the ads for the major adult movies of the time. Anyway, I couldn't figure out what was in the "X" films that made them restricted to so many, so I asked my father about it. I remember him saying they were bad movies about people taking their clothes off. Taking their clothes off? Why would people want to see that?!

I think I was 12 or 13 when I heard "Purple Haze" on the radio for the first time and thought Jimi Hendrix sang, "'Scuse me while I kiss this guy". I thought that was a real headscratcher and couldn't figure out why he'd want to do that. Heck, to this day, people still tend to hear that line the wrong way.

When I was a kid I saw a zombie movie for the first time. And the thought of the dead rising and eating people freaked me out. My dad in an attempt to make me feel better told me they were just angry people who turned bad. I asked what made them so mad. My dad thinking fast said it was because they were so ugly and couldnt find a friend. I felt bad for them. Everyone should have a friend. Then I wondered why zombies didnt hang out together. Have like zombie parties. So for the longest time I thought zombies were just angry people with bad skin.

When I was 5 or so, I heard my mom complain about money running out for the first time. I asked her why she didn't just get more from the bank. I had been under the impression that they just give money away.
