One of Spider-Man's alter-ego's from "Identity Crisis" taking to the foray, though I think that may have happened with Cyborg Spider-Man.
The city I once knew as home is teetering on the edge of radioactive oblivion
Up and coming reporter Eddie Brock is bitten by a radioactive spider while covering a science exhibit for the Daily Bugle and becomes Spider-man. Years later, underachiever, embittered and bullied Peter Parker, his spot on the Bugle taken by Brock, bonds with a symbiote and becomes Venom.

I don't think Peter needs to have a job at DB to be Venom, he could be just a angry bullied teen who wants revenge on the kids at school and the symbiote pulls out those dark repressed rage issues and out comes Venom and then later Uncle Ben dies sending Peter over the edge which spawns Carnage who lashes onto creepy teen Cletus.
I think restorative nostalgia is the number one issue with comic book fans.
A fine distinction between two types of Nostalgia:
Reflective Nostalgia allows us to savor our memories but accepts that they are in the past
Restorative Nostalgia pushes back against the here and now, keeping us stuck trying to relive our glory days.
Just call him "Pete".
Sure, with great power comes great responsibility, but Pete did his time. He served two tours during the Infinity Wars. He's seen and did things he doesn't want to think about anymore. These superhero wars change a man. Let some of the young bucks be a hero. These days, Pete would rather kick back with a beer, listen to some tunes, and chill. I mean, sure if he sees something, he's going to help, but his costumed crime fighting days are over. Even if they weren't, he's put on a few pounds so the old costume might not fit that well anymore. And the mask certainly isn't going to fit over his long hair and beard.
A Peter who never lost his Other powers or found another method of getting stronger without having to resort to using tech.
