    This is assuming the public domain law isn't changed again. Those characters should have hit public domain a long time ago but companies keep lobbying for (and getting) extensions.

    Anyway, I don't think the teases and stuff we've gotten means anything; it's just creators having some fun. DC and Marvel have done this sort of thing since forever.

    Disney is the biggest offender of this. Copyright Extensions is sometimes referred to the Mickey Mouse Extensions Act.
