Recasting the role requires too much trouble and immediately invites unnecessary comparisons to the previous actress that the crew would probably want to avoid given that domestic violence is not something they want to see being brought up during the press run for this movie.
Sometimes its best to leave the drama behind. Marvel can recast and say who gives a **** about terrence howard because he was too expensive who wanted to make more than RDJ not because he abused his partner. They have the public on their side WB/DC does not

General audiences won't care if a different actress plays Mera. It's a character in a movie. If Batman can be someone different, Mera can be.

Heard has been in the same amount of movies as Mera as Affleck has as Batman. If he can be recast, so can she. And

That doesn't mean that "something" has to be dropping Mera entirely.

Mera is too important to the Aquaman mythos to just throw out the character. I say recast if need be, but keep the character.

The Batman comparison doesn’t even make sense. We don’t even know if Pattinson will be part of the WODC/DCEU. On top of the fact the whole Batverse is being replaced. We’re getting a different Alfred we will probably see a different Thomas and Martha as well as a different Joker.
