Default Contest - 05 Feb to 12 Feb: Firefighters

As some of you will be aware, much of my homeland has been on fire for several months. There are hundreds of firefighters, the majority of them volunteers (including members of my family) out battling the blazes. The volunteers and the professionals are fighting alongside members of the Australian Defence Forces and reservists, and international fire crews from New Zealand, Canada, and the US: three of whom were tragically killed when their water bomber crashed not far from where I live (as us Aussies measure distance).

So as a small tribute to these true heroes and heroines, I am making this week's theme:

    Firefighters

    The rules are as follows:
Post one (and only one) cover that fits the theme of this week's contest.
Cover must be from a published comic book, collected volume or graphic novel.
Covers must be posted before voting begins.
Voting begins 12 AM Tuesday and runs until 12 AM Wednesday PST.
Vote by posting the name in bold of the poster whose cover best fits the theme or that you simply like the most. A vote need not be in bold, but it does make it easier to tally votes.
The winner of the contest is the entrant with the most votes after the voting period.
It's okay to discuss the covers but if you think someone's entry doesn't fit the theme or violates the rules don't argue it in the thread - simply don't vote for it.
Most importantly, remember that we're here to have fun. Enjoy!

You see, last year, in Victoria, down a smoke-filled forest track,
    Some real heroes and real heroines tried to turn the bushfire back;
All through the day they fought the blaze, exhaustion, heat, and fear,
Ordinary Aussie men and women; CFS volunteers.

Fitting theme. We had widespread forest fires here in 2018, though nowhere near as bad as in Australia.

There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

There's already a Rex cover, so it's basically over. But I won't ever give up. Here's one with Dan Decarlo art, a whilom use of "Gay", and of course firefighters.

    I shall go down fighting!

I'm not totally sure whether this comic book counts, since it was a give-away rather than a commercial release (which is why there's no publication data or price on the cover). It was the first in a series of comic books put out by the National Fire Protection Association, an international group of over 50,000 members that for over a century has created and maintained standards such as building codes and requirements for fire-fighting equipment. According to Comic Vine, "One of its regular efforts (starting around 1950) is the printing of comic books for free distribution to school children, church groups, and the public at large. For many years this was done by the students at the Joe Kubert School of Art, with Kubert contributing much of the work himself."

Anyway, I want to post it, since it features the immortal Smokey Stover, as created by Bill Holman (the "Doctor of Fireology"!), and his group of Foo Fighters. As comics fans, we owe Smokey so much.

Rex the Wonder Dog rescuing a basket of kittens is a hard act to follow.
