Is that a Gil Kane cover for Rex the Wonder Dog? I didn't notice that.

Congratulations to Shalla Bal for a Decidedly Canine cover which combined both cuteness and bravery.

The peak of the week where the captain goes on about what he's learned is a bit solemn this time. He feels a bit bad about posting a more comic cover in a theme which honored the bravest of us, who do a very dangerous job, and make ours a safer world. Thank you to all the firefighters out there.

As to the comment that Rex is a canine juggernaut, I pretty much stand by that. The Gil Kane detail and the cuteness of the kittens were excellent finishing touches. And as often happens front runners fall by the wayside and a winner may rocket up from behind chasing "Swifty" around the thread.

Thanks go out to nx01a for their vote.

Absolutely! There are so many really great covers by Kane in that Rex run.

I always get a kick out of the fact that Kane was slaving away on all those Rex covers and interiors, along with many other varied assignments and genres, prior to when he started his most famous Silver Age assignments (DC's Atom and GL). Those Rex covers are so very Kane-sian, what with those flexible limbs and those patented Kane character faces and expressions, yes, even on a doggie!

Congorats, Shalla! Your cover was no dog, even though it was a dog! Kittens for the winnin's! You had that one in the basket!
