Who ever Franklin picks it will be better then the avengers
This post has reminded me, I think it was Dark Reign, in which in an X-Men comic the comic sees how other heroes around the world react to what is happening and Franklin asks his father. "Dad, why do they hate mutants?" and he seems not to know what to answer.
I think Sue and Reed are very good parents in general, but I think you're right. I think Franklin has lived isolated from what it means for him to be a mutant. He's a bit like Carlton in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
I love Zdarsky's work (still miss Kaptara), so I'm sorry to say I found this a bit boring and basic. Not bad, just predictable. :/
This was so much fun. I haven't read much of the FF in recent years but they sound great. Franklin and Val are stars.
I loved all of it. The history between characters and the back and forth. Excellent work.
P.S. I kinda wanted to see Pyro wake Ororo up with fire.
"Danielle... I intend to do something rash and violent." - Betsy Braddock
Krakoa, Arakko, and Otherworld forever!
First of all, I like the art and coloring. I loved how deeply the theme of family was felt. The X-team still felt a bit...much...to me, but the dynamic between Kitty and Franklin was wonderful and caring. Val in the end was also solid.
Also, everyone was making stupid decisions that were not at all tactical, which is incredibly frustrating. Sue going directly for the forcefield was a bit much, but my god, the X-Men coalition that came was also poor decision-making. Sending Kitty alone would have been better. Or even offer to help Reed with Franklin's powers, pull a Palpatine and subtly influence Franklin to your side from there.
As it stands, I still fall more on the side of the F4 because Franklin is a minor and their kid. Reed monumentally screwed up, yes, but everyone acknowledges that. Franklin is a mutant, but as Reed said, he can make the decision to live in Krakoa in a few years when he is an adult.
just clone a mini franklin and raise him proud krakoan
Dialouge heavy issue. So how is the dialouge. Well above average I would say. 7/10 perhaps. Sometimes weak and cringey but othertiems effecient and sharp. "You got a timetable, and that's why I'm suspicious" was my favorite since it actually gave us a new angle after all the mandatory "Mutants together" and "my family!" stuff. I think it framed the discussion in a better light.
The art is Terry Dodson and I frankly have grown a bit tired of it. But that is a subjective opinion. Overall it was very uneven. Some panels are crisp and good composition. Others are treated as blurry unfocused events that looks like something I would draw. I wonder how much stress was involved or if it's on the inker. Still that inker is his wife so It should be safe to assume that it's as intended.
I have stopped reading marauders but does this Kitty work with that Kate? She felt like a Kitty from some years ago for me.
Her connection to Franklin felt too strong. I can buy that there is a connection and Franklin is in a pressured situation. Still it felt too strong, too fast.
I liked the scene where Ben and Franklin talked. I think that felt the most true to character. While some others where forced due to the need for drama.
Did not like Doom at the end. I used to like him but after Secret Wars I'm tired of him.
EDIT: Laura would have been an inspired chocie for this book. Lets hope she appears.
A more thoughtful approach from the Krakoans would have been to send Ororo with T'Challa and Kate, have them escort the whole FF to the island and tour them around together. But then we wouldn't get a fun superhero tussle as easily. It is a shame they barely acknowledged Ororo's relationship to the FF(she and Ben's conversation did telegraph a familiarity and level of respect), which is the most developed of all the X-Men really.
Let the flames destroy all but that which is pure and true!
Franklin should take a selfie with •-[A]-• and send it to dad.
