Rogue and Gambit would seem like better fits in a title like X factor. Particularly Gambit....That dark and gritty feel of the title would seem to be a bit more tailor made for him then the world of Excalibur.
Look, I just want him to have a personality that isn't "Rogue", and I say this as someone who ships the couple.

Same here. I’m a full fledged Rogue/Gambit shipper as well. I’m hoping that Tini can give Gambit more of an independent personality separate from Rogue. They don’t have to constantly play off each other all the time. Gambit is also capable of more than just worrying about Rogue every panel.

I love what Rogue says because it's kinda true hahaha you're not supposed to say yeah you're a villain, I'll take it. But I guess the Braddocks are not your usual family and Betsy knows that they're all a bit unstable.

Apocalypse and Rictor are idealist. Of course, the idealism of Apocalpyse is very dark.

Jubilee and Gambit are cynical about all the magic crap because they distrust Apocalypse.

Betsy and Rogue seem neutral towards the subject.

I agree with this and I want to say this is why, for me, things feel wrong with Excalibur.

Individually, I feel like Jubilee and Gambit feel wrong as cynics, and Rictor feels wrong as an idealist. Now, I'm sort of interested in flipping the script with those three, but I think Excalibur is the wrong vehicle for that ride. Jubilee as a cynic is one darling infant away from being a surly teen, and that's tiring just thinking about. Rictor, who is Surly™, has always been haunted, this new embrace of a "druid" identity doesn't seem something he'd find comfortable. Gambit isn't a character I think much about, but he's always fun, adaptable, sexy and plays to win. His Rachel play was smart, but his constant antagonism doesn't feel right. Rogue, who's recently familiar with both leadership and elevated status among the Avengers should have been Betsy's confidant throughout this status quo upheaval, but she was incapacitated. So many odd choices.

I don't have any suggestions or alternate casting

Not The Morrigan, it’s Morgan Le Fay Apocalypse has his claws in. There’s a difference, trust me

They’re both dangerous madams, but The Morrigan is sooooo much more dangerous (I got chucked out of Sunday School at the age of 12, for wanting to be The Morrigan when I grew up. Life goals. And reading The Moon of Gomrath).
